So, i got to the final stage of interviews (3 in total). It all went ahead fairly quickly and efficiently. I felt really positive about it and felt we all got on. Anyway the recruiter told me on Monday that initial feedback is positive but they still have one person to interview at final stage and they'll let me know either way this week. Still nothing tho. I just presume it's a no as otherwise wouldn't they just make me an offer? Feeling deflated as really felt it was positive and didn't expect there even was another candidate

I had this for my current role. The interview of final candidate was delayed for some reason and they strung it out for days. I got the role but assume I was second choice.

PuppyMonkey · 25/03/2021 17:40

I just had to ask Alexa what day it was then. Grin

I think you’re still in with a shot OP, maybe they couldn’t meet to discuss applicants till this afternoon?

Hate it when interviewers leave you hanging like this all week.

purpledagger · 25/03/2021 17:40

Try not to over think it OP.

Yes, it may mean they are offering the role to someone else, but it could just be that the interviewers are busy, on holiday or off sick.

MintLampShade · 25/03/2021 17:44

They wouldn't necessarily cancel interviews just because your final stage went really well. It's a process and lot of pros and cons and weighing things up. It really could be a million things but be assured that it's in the recruiter's best interest as well for you to get the job so I' imagine that they will be chasing up when they feel it's appropriate. If you don't hear anything by lunchtime tomorrow, I'd see no harm in sending the recruiter a quick text or email to see what's up. Have they been adequately supporting you throughout the process?

Yes they have supported but gone quiet since Tuesday. They said they'd call them and tell I'm still keen and feel it all went well etc etc

wouldn't most people accept it right away especially in the climate nowadays
I’ve had five interviews this week and one next, if one of my least-preferred offers then I’ll take my time and defer a decision long enough to keep my option open on the favourite role. Yes, things are shit right now but if you don’t HAVE to take just anything it’s silly to.

MintLampShade · 25/03/2021 17:51

@Kellymarie237 I am guessing that means they haven't heard anything either and there's nothing to say really. If you think it helps, I'd still contact them tomorrow for an update. Even to just chat it through. It's not like you've been hounding them all week, is it :)

Kellymarie237 · 25/03/2021 17:55

The recruiter just texted asking if I've heard anything from the company directly as he hasn't and will try and contact them tomorrow. Ugh doesn't sound positive really

Ellpellwood · 25/03/2021 17:56

Don't read too much into that. He just wants his commission before month end.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 25/03/2021 18:06

I also thought it was Wednesday today. I have missed a meeting. Oh well.

Kellymarie, what PP said about this being the focal point of your mind but not of the interviewer's is a really good point. I think perhaps they might be aiming to get this resolved by the end of this week if they can and, since it's Thursday today, that will be tomorrow.

Try to put it out of your mind if you can... I know it's difficult. Do you have any other interviews/jobs to apply for that can distract you in the meantime?

Good luck, fingers crossed for you.

IEat · 25/03/2021 18:08

3 interviews! Recruitment takes the piss

CoffeeandCakeEqualsLove · 25/03/2021 18:11

Patience, OP. I've been on both ends of it, and honestly- sometimes other priorities take attention away from the recruitment process and it takes longer than you intended. Or they are waiting to get sign off on salary offer, etc from senior management. I was once delayed 2wks making an offer to someone because the final sign off took so long from "up the chain". Don't over think it.

Kellymarie237 · 25/03/2021 18:15

Yes but wouldn't they first have to check whether you accept the offer/salary they are offering before signing it off?

No - they need to get authorisation to offer you £XX...otherwise how would you know if you want to take the job? (Or go back and negotiate to)
sangrias · 25/03/2021 18:20

Took me 3 weeks to hear back from a job I went for. They offered it to me.
They were just really, really slow (local authority so no surprises there!)
It was 6 weeks after that when I actually started.

There's hope.

Kellymarie237 · 25/03/2021 18:28

Just deflated cause up until the end it was all moving fast

@Kellymarie237

Not always, especially if you salary is above the band they have in mind, or within band but more than they initially expected. If you had already accepted an offer which hadn’t been signed off and then it turned out to be too high etc that would put the authoriser/HR team in a really tricky position.
Kellymarie237 · 25/03/2021 18:49

Yes it was a fraction too high (as I had to state my previous salary to them).
But then wouldn’t they reassure the recruiter and tell him they are doing that?

MaMaD1990 · 25/03/2021 19:01

When I've been recruiting staff the stages can take longer. It could be a tough decision for them to make and want to sleep on it, the other person could have had some personal issue and moved it to tomorrow. Personally I'd wait till Monday and give them a call if you don't hear, always good to get feedback, especially if you think it went well.

KatherineOfGaunt · 25/03/2021 19:04

I once got through to final interview for a publisher. It was between me and one other person. They said they'd call by the end of the week. The following week (when I'd already figured I didn't get it) a letter arrived in the post to reject me.

They couldn't even ring ONE candidate within three days to tell them they didn't get the job after TWO interviews. Angry

Crocidura · 25/03/2021 19:28

At our place there's often a bit of a delay until the panel members can find a time to get back together and discuss. It doesn't necessarily mean they don't want you.

MintLampShade · 25/03/2021 19:31

@Kellymarie237

It really depends, OP! Some Companies engage with their recruiters far more frequently than others. Also, the company that interviewed you may actually have their own HR department that is directly liaising with the recruiters on behalf of the hiring managers / panel. This would delay communication even further. So as you see, it really is not that straight forward...
Kellymarie237 · 25/03/2021 20:08

Thanks it's hard but I've always thought a long silence is generally negative

OP posts:
Kellymarie237 · 25/03/2021 20:37

@KatherineOfGaunt
That's rubbish! Did they give you any feedback?

OP posts:
MM321 · 25/03/2021 21:08

@KatherineOfGaunt Eurgh, I hate that!!! I’ve recruited a lot and while you can’t get back to every person that sends in an application (I’ve seen well over 1000 applicants for one position 😳), I always make a point of phoning the applicants that made it to interview. I just think it’s always helpful to give a bit of feedback 🤷🏻‍♀️
