Toilet Roll Trauma!!

AvocadoHo · 23/03/2021 22:11

Light hearted!!!!

So, myself and DH have lived together for 3 years.

Literally, every time one of us go to the toilet we turn the toilet roll around to the way we think it should sit on the holder.

He believes in over, whereas I'm an under girl!

This has been a silent war as we never mention it to each other but I turn the toilet roll at 3/5 times a day! It doesn't annoy me overly but now it's a matter of pride, I can't let it slip!🙈😂

Does anyone else have a silly or pointless silent battle within their house or is it just mine?

Oooohbehave · 24/03/2021 09:21

Definitely over. Or in my house DH just perches the new roll on top of the empty roll still on the holder until I notice 😡

SozzledSausage · 24/03/2021 09:22

Over is correct.

It's what posh hotels do....

leafygarden42 · 24/03/2021 09:24

OVER, over, over

That's what pretty much everyone says OP

Time for you to change your weird ways and do it properly.

gingerscot · 24/03/2021 09:24

Definitely under. But I bought a vertical one which makes life easier.

viques · 24/03/2021 09:25

Over obviously. Why would the tp manufacturers put the embossed bits underneath?

viques · 24/03/2021 09:27

@Kleptronic

You get more greasy fingerprints on the wall with it under.
You eat chips and bacon sandwiches on the loo?

Nurse, please fetch my pills and fainting couch .

When we first moved in together I was in favour of Under but DH wanted Over. We had a grownup conversation about why. He explained that when getting loo paper from a seated position it doesn't matter much whether the loo roll is hung over or under though under might be marginally better there's not much in it. However when getting it from a standing position (as he does but I don't due to our different plumbing) it makes a significant difference, it is a lot more difficult to grasp the end if it is hung under, especially if the roll has rolled up and there isn't a loose bit but even if there is a loose sheet hanging down it is generally awkward to reach. I confirmed this for myself experimentally and agreed with this, which hadn't previously been something I had considered. I therefore wholeheartedly converted to overness because I understood why it was important to him, whereas it didn't practically make a great deal of difference to me.

On the subject of dishwashers though, we have agreed to never attempt to share the task of stacking the dishwasher at the same time. We agree with one another that one of us has excellent dishwasher stacking practices and procedures and one of us always gets it horribly and terribly wrong. There is not yet a consensus among the relevant scientific community as to which individual is which.

countrygirl99 · 24/03/2021 09:34

Anyone saying under would soon change their minds if their DC got a paper round and always went to the loo straight away on getting home before washing the print of their hands.

Lacucuracha · 24/03/2021 09:39

Why don’t you become like a posh hotel and have TWO toilet roll holders, one over and one under?

CrystalMaisie · 24/03/2021 09:44

Over over over over over over over over over

VettiyaIruken · 24/03/2021 09:45

Under is the civilised way. All these over people make me sick. Sick I tell you!!

greeneyedlulu · 24/03/2021 09:55

Over is the correct way!!

hahameow · 24/03/2021 10:04

I've never noticed, how embarrassing. I just chuck it on. I'll pay more attention now Grin

We have silent stacking and restacking the dishwasher wars. Dh is shit at it.

BestOption · 24/03/2021 10:10

Over

I live alone. For actual grown up reasons DP & I don't live together, but there are another eleventy million things like this that shore up that decision 😆

GretaGip · 24/03/2021 11:45

Hiw does under actually work efficiently?

Surely you're just scrabbling at the wall each time you want a slice of paper? Confused

JackieTheFart · 24/03/2021 11:51

Yes we do - every time he makes a bolognese or similar, I’ll say it needs a spoonful of marmite “for the umami” Grin. Marmite is literally the only thing he won’t eat. If he’s out I send him spoony fucker pics like this one to wind him up Grin I’m such a wag!

But you’re wrong about the loo roll.

Toilet Roll Trauma!!
Flavabobble · 24/03/2021 11:54

Surely this is the only acceptable method?

Disfordarkchocolate · 24/03/2021 11:54

I change how he stacks the dishwasher, quite blatantly too. We never mention it, probably because we both know I'm right (his Mum told me too). We don't have a toilet roll holder, largely because he was and 'under' and I decided this was the best way to win.

poshme · 24/03/2021 12:03

We have similar issues.

And hanging out washing. He does it wrong. Sometimes I have to re-peg.

This inevitably leads to arguments. So I do it stealthily. I have to pretend I'm
Popping into the garden for another reason and not to rehang his appalling pegged washing.

poshme · 24/03/2021 12:03

And the dishwasher.

Why can't people stack properly? (My way)

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 24/03/2021 12:10

There is quite a long discussion on this very subject on Wikipedia.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toilet_paper_orientation

Regrettably it is not conclusive...

BeastOfBODMAS · 24/03/2021 12:34

DH meticulously massages the toothpaste tube from the very end to get every bit out. I just sort of pick it up in my fist like the Incredible Hulk.

He was threatening divorce so I bought him a key that fits on the end of a toothpaste tube and rolls it up neatly. Everyone is happy - I keep doing it wrong and he gets to use the special tool.
