An old friend got in touch (I should have known). Saying they’d set up a new business and would like a chat.
I offer a service that helps news business so assumed they wanted to ask for a bit of advice etc.

It was obvious that I thought this by my answer.

Then things got strange - I send a calendar link for 30 minutes and frond says “oh no, it will take an hour. I want to show you my presentation” alarm bells should have gone off.

Anyways it was for fucking utility warehouse. Luckily I realised before the call - but I am so pissed off. I was willing to give an hour of my (working) time to help - and it’s a sodding MLM sales tactic.

Aibu to block?

I'm with UW. They were the cheapest by far. Shitting bricks now though! God knows what my bills are going to go up to. They e never hassled me to join them.

This happened to dp. He's a Web designer. Thought this acquaintance wanted advice about setting up a website, cue wasting 2 hours of his time as it dawned on dp that he was doing mlm. Again utility warehouse.

Thank you PurpleEcho.

I didn't realize Utility Warehouse was an actual company. I was sitting here thinking "Utility warehouses aren't really an impulse purchase, and most people wouldn't want one. That seems like a really bad product choice for MLM schemes."

It’s kinda sad when these people do this…. Sad because they are so awfully clumsy at sales and how that works. Sadder still because they don’t get that scratching and clawing the bucket of their connections with only the intention to further themselves alienates themselves and makes normal people feel uncomfortable ….

Even more sad?

They don’t know they are in a terrible cult like money pit.

In the USA these MLMs have to post the earnings details. It has been (from my research… prove me wrong with citations because I am confident) about 99% of these people don’t see a profit. There are many others who have actually pointed this out.

These MLMs will cry “ own business.” For those other women didn’t work hard enough.

They also have this cult like culture. They get emotionally involved and become friends and if you were to leave “the business “ you would be left out in the cold.

I have a story of a coworker who left a high paying career with benefits and the whole 9 to further her “own business” and the fallout and consequences of it are TV drama worthy.

It’s so damn sad
