I have no idea where I’m posting, I’m just so pissed off with life. Without going into a whole saga this past year has been fucking dreadful and heartbreaking. Last week me and my partner of 5 years split. And he’s being an arsehole and now ever since my daughter started nursery 1.5 years ago she has a constant bloody cold which keeps her up all night with coughing!!!!! It’s constant I can’t say how many sleepless nights we have had with this night time cough. It’s not asthma or allergies it’s always when she has any bit of snot even if it’s just a little bit! She’s almost 4 and shows no signs of improving I have every contraption and medicine under the sun for her and nothing works. I’m heartbroken and exhausted. I want to sleep, I want my child to stop being poorly all the time which in turn leads to shit days because she’s having shit nights and I am completely and utterly fed up.

How do you know it' not allergies?

What have you given her / has the GP said about this?

Does she sleep on her front or back?

Whatever, broken sleep is the pits for all concerned, so I really feel for you.

Talk to your GP. It's not normal to have a constant cold.

HavelockVetinari · 22/03/2021 20:56

Definitely go to the GP and tell him/her exactly what you have said in your OP. It is NOT normal to be unwell all the time, and especially not to be frequently up in the night coughing. There are a few things it could be, probably just allergies but it's important to get her looked at - even if it is just allergies you'll be able to use inhalers or antihistamines to help her sleep without coughing.

My DS was like this, with constant snot, gunk, ear infections and colds. Total misery and pain for him, endless broken nights for me. It turned out that he had glue-ear, which was picked up via hearing tests, starting age 3-4. All that gunk just sits in their tubes, getting infected over and over again. He hadn’t ‘grown out’ of it by aged 7, so he had grommets fitted in both ears. Overnight, the problem resolved itself. His hearing improved markedly, no more ear infections and no more than one or two cold per year. Have you had your child’s hearing tested? It could be worth a try. My sympathies are with you, OP.

I k ow you said it's not asthma, but there is something called cough-variant asthma which gave DS a constant, constant, constant (!) nighttime cough

My ds has a cold as we speak. He goes to Playschool every day and I know that’s where he picked it up. Thank gods he’s not coughing like your little one, but it gives me the rage that some parents send kids in when they are sick to pass it on to other kids. I honestly think if you knowingly send your child in sick there should be a fine for the parents. You must be exhausted with getting up all night. All I can say is that by next week she should be on the road to recovery 💕
