To be so sick of selfish dog owners...The seal pup in London

It’s in the news that a seal pup has been mauled by an off lead dog. The seal pup now is likely to be put down.

Recent story of an off lead husky attacking lambs and sheep . A few months ago an off lead dog mauled a deer which had to be destroyed.

Numerous stories of swans being mauled by off lead dogs. On top of the numerous stories of children being attacked by off lead dogs.

Ffs why are people so bloody stupid and selfish! Keep your dog on a lead near wildlife!

I feel so sad for the seal pup . AIBU to think laws need to be tightened around off lead dogs?

I say this as a dog lover and owner .

looks like no prosecution or removal of dog will happen

The dog won’t be PTS either

@SelkieQualia Aww.. that’s a shame, I really wanted to show her my Labrador 😬

Gorgeous lab!

I’ve got two labs too Grin

What an absolute 'beast' I would say it was more of a doberman than a lab though!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 24/03/2021 10:04

A Labrador is more likely to slobber you to death and steal your sandwich... Our old Jackie would just gas you.

@PinkSparklyPussyCat

I'm surprised he couldn't be sent to a sanctuary - I know the one at Cornwall has a seal that had the bones from his/her flipper removed.

Or stop keeping cats and dogs as pets.

It's unnecessary and destructive

No, I think you'll find it's destructive in some cases, not all.

I read that apparently there's some rule where they don't remove seals from the wild into captivity. They don't don't do well and it would be too distressing. The ones they usually have in captivity have always been in captivity I think.

How is the woman facing no repercussions for what happened? She should at least be fined and ordered to keep her dog on a lead!

toffeebutterpopcorn · 24/03/2021 13:00

What if the dog had gone after a child?

YoniAndGuy · 24/03/2021 13:01

Fucking horrible little shit of a dog. So sad at this. She should be fined and the dog put down.

A high profile case like this - seeing repercussions would probably actually have some effect on shitty owners taking the trouble to put their badly trained dogs on leads.

Lockheart · 24/03/2021 13:12

The RSPCA won't prosecute because there's no intentional animal cruelty involved. The owner didn't set her dog on the seal or set out with the intention to do so.

Therefore it's out of the RSPCAs remit.

Why the police may not do anything is harder to say. Perhaps they have other information not being disclosed in the media.

I agree. But I think she will find it difficult to take the dog out locally ever again anyway, even if it isn't put down. Everyone knows her now and what her dog looks like. It won't make for pleasant walkies. If she won't have it PTS she'll likely have to rehome it on the quiet.

Pretty sure sea sanctury has them and also sometimes release them back

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 13:21

@SofiaMichelle why is it destructive and what do you think will happen to all dogs and cats that are now domesticated animals , shall we just kill them all because some humans are irresponsible and even more over the top and irrational

Lampzade · 24/03/2021 13:22

A neighbour of mine has this large dog and does not put a leash on said dog. I have seen children/adults nearly get run over because they have attempted to avoid this unleashed dog.
It makes my blood boil when I see this
I don’t give AF how ‘friendly’ your dog is. When walking along a busy road put your dog on a leash ffs.

Lampzade · 24/03/2021 13:23

Lead

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 13:23

This post has shown me one thing and that is there are more despicable nasty people than dogs , who really need a reality check

Popcornbetty · 24/03/2021 13:25

They need to fine dog owners heavily who let dogs off leads in public. I've also seen cases of the dog walking the owner and not the other way around, even the lead isnt suitable and they havent had the big strong dog under their control.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 13:25

People shouldn’t impose their choices on others- your dig should not be a risk to my child.
Agree shouldn't be a risk and there are far more responsible owners than bad
But then its like children people think they should let others have to put up with there badly behaved kids and should lump it,

Popcornbetty · 24/03/2021 13:26

People who let their dogs run riot with no regard for anybody else are the despicable nasty ones imo especially when they own a breed people are scared of.

Don't be ridiculous. I should be fined for playing ball with my dog? Really? Are you actually saying that?
donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 13:28

One of the most obvious, and pretty revolting at times, manifestations of this inbreeding is a dogs pathological obsession with food.
You really don't have a clue , some dogs are food oriented others are not
I could leave cooked food on my table all day and my dog wouldn't touch it
I could also put food in front of him and tell him to leave and he wouldn't touch it
The leave command is one my dog trainer told me was very important

Popcornbetty · 24/03/2021 13:29

@LST if you dog is out ot control in a public place than yes. My sister was badly bitten by a dog thay that wasn't on a lead as a child so yes i am seriously saying it!

Stormwhale · 24/03/2021 13:29

Our dog is now sadly deceased, but when alive she was not trustworthy around livestock and wildlife. This meant she was never off the lead unless in a contained area. It's not difficult to understand surely.

Popcornbetty · 24/03/2021 13:29

your dog is out of*

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 13:31

@LST this thread is just ridiculous a load of uneducated twats tbh
Yes we all agree a dog should be kept under control but some of whats suggested on here , quite frankly is cruel.
Humans do a lot more damage to other humans and normally when it comes to dogs its also human error
Yes I agree breeding should be better regulated , maybe puppy classes / training mandatory
