To be so sick of selfish dog owners...The seal pup in London

It’s in the news that a seal pup has been mauled by an off lead dog. The seal pup now is likely to be put down.

Recent story of an off lead husky attacking lambs and sheep . A few months ago an off lead dog mauled a deer which had to be destroyed.

Numerous stories of swans being mauled by off lead dogs. On top of the numerous stories of children being attacked by off lead dogs.

Ffs why are people so bloody stupid and selfish! Keep your dog on a lead near wildlife!

I feel so sad for the seal pup . AIBU to think laws need to be tightened around off lead dogs?

I say this as a dog lover and owner .

Wild animals catch prey because they need to eat! Dogs get fed at home, they are domestic. That is why it's more upsetting to see wildlife being killed by them. Not the dogs fault though it's totally the owners responsibility to ensure dogs are well trained or kept on a decent lead.
Cats don't catch prey to eat though and some do kill a lot of wildlife , bet a lot on here saying dogs should all be tied up , own a cat
Guy at work is proud that his cat has killed birds , frogs and even a bat

Unless it approaches me or my family, I have no interest in your hound whatsoever.
Some dogs are nicer than a lot of people tbf
People are also twats all the time

AvocadosBeforeMortgages · 24/03/2021 01:20

@Flaxmeadow Now you're just trolling. I have better things to do than to engage with idiots and trolls. I'm off to bed.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 01:20

@Flaxmeadow do you have any pets ?

SelkieQualia · 24/03/2021 01:22

IE, the brain of a human thinking about someone they love and a dog think about their owner activate in the same way

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2021 01:22

If you stick a dog in a functional MRI scanner, and let it smell it's owner, the areas of the brain that correspond to romantic love in humans light up.

Sorry but this is just plain weird and a good example of the delusions people have about their dogs

A dog, even when not hungry, will eat its deceased owners face 8f given the chance. This happens on a regular basis and is a well known phenomenon. They also eat their own vomit and shit and for some reason we are expected to like these animals and put up with them off leash everywhere. In parks, and even in cafes and pubs

*abeanbaked
This really upset me, why are dog owners so obsessed with having their dogs off lead? Is it because they can't be arse training them to walk nicely on a lead? My dog doesn't get off as she is still young and her recall is less than perfect but the amount of people who walk their disobedient dogs off lead and let them run up to my dog is frankly abhorrent. My dog has a fear of black labs as when she was a little puppy one bounded up to her and really caught her off guard, scaring her shitless. The owners had zero control over it.*
I have a border collie a lead walk would be no good for him , he needs a good run
He has good recall though and we don't take him to nearby fields if sheep or cattle are grazing as never worth the risk
In a public path if busy he would be on the lead but lots of people actually let their kids just approach him without asking , he is fine but they don't know that and he is on a lead by our side quite a way from them.

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2021 01:25

do you have any pets ?

I grew up with all kinds if animals, including dogs. I now think pet ownership is mostly cruel and especially dogs. The way they've been inbred, many reasons but also for the neighbourhood and the risk they pose to the vulnerable. Disease and attacks

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 01:26

@Flaxmeadow we get you don't like dogs ,but your comments are just plain stupid

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 01:28

@Flaxmeadow yes all these deadly diseases we get from dogs ? There are more things vulnerable people need to be frightened off than dogs and thats humans

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2021 01:33

we get you don't like dogs ,but your comments are just plain stupid

I think doggy lover comments are ridiculous but here we are. It's not about liking or disliking dogs, it's that I dont understand why anyone would want to be around one for any length of time and if they do, why won't they keep them leashed in public places

yes all these deadly diseases we get from dogs ? There are more things vulnerable people need to be frightened off than dogs and thats humans

There have been a few science papers published recently about covid in cats and dogs and how it is probably spread by them

There are dangers in keeping animals in close proximity to humans

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2021 01:38

...not to mention rabies. Is that deadly enough for you

Lesssaideasymended · 24/03/2021 01:44

@WiganNorthWest ah yes, that makes sense, lol. My girl is def no couch potato & we live very rurally with a lot of farm land. I can imagine it being hard in a more urban area.

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 01:46

@Flaxmeadow we don't have rabies in the uk
There have also been studies about dogs etc being good for stress and health and lets not forget assistance dogs who help some vulnerable people lead a normal life?
Do you have kids ?
Kids carry germs , you have to clean up after them and people let them run wild and scream in restaurants and don't have them under control either

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2021 01:48

Cats and dogs have been found harboring the B.1.1.7 SARS-CoV-2 variant.
Major coronavirus variant found in pets for first time

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 01:50

@Flaxmeadow but it would of been given to them by people in the first place

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2021 01:52

we don't have rabies in the uk

It isnt just that though. It's all the attacks and the shit everywhere

There have also been studies about dogs etc being good for stress and health and lets not forget assistance dogs who help some vulnerable people lead a normal life?

That depends. 8m sure there are many people who a dog would induce stress. They are incredibly annoying to a lot of people

Do you have kids ?

Dogs are not human beings

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 01:53

@Flaxmeadow have you actually read the link you posted beyond the headline
You don't like dogs ok don't have one, but if other people want one its allowed and for many people they are better than a lot of humans
As a species we need to be looking more at ourselves than domestic dogs

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 01:54

Dogs are not human beings
So ? Human beings aren't all so great either
More humans kill each other than dogs thats for sure

CayrolBaaaskin · 24/03/2021 01:56

I think it’s awful that the seal pup was attacked. But it seems to me overkill to keep all dogs on leads at all times except in the garden

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 01:57

It isnt just that though. It's all the attacks and the shit everywhere
All mostly down to irresponsible owners like litter and irresponsible people
But not all people litter and not all dogs owners leave their dogs crap on the floor , not all the attacks though , yes one is too many but I think humans are responsible for more attacks on other humans

donewithitalltodayandxmas · 24/03/2021 01:58

I think it’s awful that the seal pup was attacked. But it seems to me overkill to keep all dogs on leads at all times except in the garden
Yes otherwise we need to do same to cats as well

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2021 01:58

but it would of been given to them by people in the first place

Covid is zoonotic. It came from animals. Probably a bat + pangolin, or s9me scientists think maybe even a dog, due to the large amounts of dogs living in close proximity to humans in China.

But that's not the point. The more it spreads and the more animals it spreads in, the more chance of a dangerous variant

I'm not a dog, or any animal, hater. I just think we live to closely with them and breed them too.much. Either for food or as pets. I'm not a vegetarian but I do think we eat too much meat

Dogs served a purpose once, they were bred for certain tasks but this unfortunately led to a Frankenstein creation called "pets". Why do you think dogs are so obsessed with food for example?

Flaxmeadow · 24/03/2021 02:01

As others have asked
Why can't you at least keep them on leads in public places?

SelkieQualia · 24/03/2021 02:09

It's a real scientific paper.
