That's my rental dated throughout.
Old fashioned bevelled glass doors, artex everywhere, 30 year old carpets painting outside, something needs doing in the garden to make it lower maintenance and a landlord who doesnt want to spend. I am happy in regards to area and the space I have layout etc.
Would you spend out of your own pocket to bring it up to date. I guess I'm just looking to see if folks on here have spent on thier rental or is it a daft idea what's the limits.

@Clappingforjoy - your landlord not ensuring your rental is fitted with smoke alarms at the start of your tenancy is sickening considering it's his legal obligation and they only cost around a tenner! Please speak to Shelter about your housing situation and rights, you may be entitled to more help than you think.

Our carpet comes up when you hoover it! So i know the feeling!

Be careful with the polystyrene ceiling tiles, some have an asbestos white fluffy papery backing to them which would be a hazard if they were disturbed.

Clappingforjoy · 21/03/2021 19:36

Yes I know abt the asbestos risk

Go to a financial advisor and see if you can get a mortgage to buy it.

I’ve painted the odd room in a rental. You can buy paint for a room in wilko for about £20. If it makes it better it’s a good plan. I wouldn’t spend on carpets etc. Maybe buy some rugs to cover the worst of them.

don't spend more than the price of emulsion for the walls and ceilings.

buy some rugs if you want, that you can take with you, and maybe some table lamps.
