Always itchy

Does anyone else have this issue?
It seems to be when I'm out walking, my legs constantly get itchy, particularly around my knee joints, and around my crotch area which is awkward.
Can be around my shins too.
I've tried different washing tablets, different trousers etc. But nothing works.

It's a nuisance as it really hinders me when I'm outside.
Has anyone else got this? Thanks

I don't think it's shaving rash or anything either. Other people have commented on it too so it must be happening a lot.

Look up urticaria, can be brought on by heat or cold or sweating for some people. I get the hives sometimes but mostly just chronic itchiness.

Royalbloo · 21/03/2021 10:11

Have you tried an antihistamine?

Hawaiianpizza29 · 21/03/2021 10:12

Thank you I haven't heard of that but I will look it up.
Haven't tried antihistamines no, I take them for the seasonal hayfever I get in may/June but perhaps could start earlier and see if it helps.

@Royalbloo

Have you tried an antihistamine?
I was going to suggest this too-
TashieWoo · 21/03/2021 10:13

I’ve had this for a year now, I think it’s an allergy but my skin comes up in hives in random patches on my body, hot and red with white scratch lines, I actually find it quite debilitating. I control it with an antihistamine every night, allican tablets from Amazon - cheap and they don’t make me drowsy.

LadyJaye · 21/03/2021 10:14

I am also an itchy person. Have had skin scrapings etc done, avoid highly perfumed products as a matter of course, but it seems it's just one of those things.

I find an over-the-counter antihistamine taken on a prophylactic basis (especially during tree pollen season, when it gets especially bad) helps, as does using a gentle body cream such as Aveeno.

Hawaiianpizza29 · 21/03/2021 10:14

There's nothing at all red or raised where I'm itching, I have had it for years now too.
Still going to try antihistamines anyway.

To add - I buy Superdrug's generic antihistamine tablets in bulk, as they're cheaper than named brands and seem to do the job effectively.

They don't make me drowsy, but some people do prefer to take them before bed.

MrsFin · 21/03/2021 10:35

I constant itch, all over when I think about it, but just my lower legs all the time.
I often scratch my legs so hard they bleed. It's like the itch is under my skin.

I put it down to having dry skin. Moisturising helps, as does exfoliation, though the itch never really goes away.

Now that I think about it, I really need to scratch my legs - got to go....

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 21/03/2021 10:49

This can be a menopausal thing

I’m allergic to my sweat so l also take antihistamines

Dermacool is good. It’s a cream with menthol which helps calm itching down.

I just recently had my own thread cos my kids were itchy. Although the older I get the less products on my self I seem to be able to tolerate.

I find vegan products seem to be the ones that cause much less irritation.

For years I prevented clothes being itch by using ecover however something has changed now and it is no longer suitable.

We now use violets. I can recommend however the price is not for the faint hearted. It has however stopped most of the itching for the kids.

I have found underwear washed in other detergents to be incredibly uncomfortable so that could explain that.

For skin care products go paraben , silicone and also free. Something like faith in nature shower gel or soap.

Naturissimo, my pure, both have a good selection of lotions and potions. Or green people. Might be worth a shot?

Coasterfan · 21/03/2021 10:58

I get really bad itching not linked to being outside though but I have been tracking it and I think it’s hormonal as it is horrendous a couple of days before my period and again during ovulation. Moisturising helps, antihistamines make me sleepy but also help especially at night.

42andcounting · 21/03/2021 15:06

I've had this for years and years, moisturising didn't help, nothing did. 18 months ago I was diagnosed with urticaria on a different part of my body, and prescribed daily antihistamines, and I have not had the itchy legs since. I'd say give antihistamines a try, but take them regularly every day, not just when you get the itch. If it clears up after two weeks, you have a solution.

Mine was also linked to my out of control thyroid (side effect of excess antibodies), so if you have other symptoms consistent with hypothyroid, that would be worth checking out too.

Fairyliz · 21/03/2021 15:45

I came on to say it can be a side effect of an under active thyroid.
Might be worth a blood test if you have other symptoms.

MandUs · 21/03/2021 15:50

It can be a liver issue too.

Did you ever go to the Gp?

Chanjer · 21/03/2021 16:15

I get it when it's cold and in summer it goes away

I also get hayfever but find that I need to use different tablets to stop the itching. I find benadryl (acrivastine) to be most effective

Frazzledd · 22/03/2021 07:16

I find vegan products seem to be the ones that cause much less irritation.

I've seen this written quite a few times now.

What classifies moisturisers as vegan? I thought the majority didn't contain animal products (I'm guessing certain fats might be used in some?)

I've seen some now labelled as 'vegan friendly' but thought it was a 'jumping on the bandwagon, pump the price up' thing and just meant as in 'not tested on animals'...?

I'm wondering why less irritation?

hulahooper2 · 22/03/2021 07:19

I had it in my lower legs and was told to take evening primrose oil and to moisturise , and that helped

Whatwouldscullydo · 22/03/2021 07:22

I think its just cos they tend to be more likely to just be paraben sls and silicone free. Lanolin is one ingredient that gets used sometimes. I dont know why it is really , maybe it's cos they are always so expensive that the ingredients are usually natural and organic. All I know is that ot helps. And when I buy alternatives that are cheaper and regular high street products I end up with a cupboard full of shit I cant use and still spending out on the old faithful products.

Frazzledd · 22/03/2021 07:29

Lanolin! I didn't think of that! I went through tons of that stuff not long ago, it was a godsend!

My go-to moisturiser is Dermal 500, for the kids and me, aqueous creams - I get the itchy alongside hay-fever, daily antihistamine and this.

I agree about getting a blood test though re the other pps, just to rule out anything else.

Cassilis · 22/03/2021 07:51

It could be fabric conditioner. That stuff made my legs itch like mad.

Try cutting it out.
