AIBU to think this is so cheeky of the eBay seller?

Purchased ds age 10 eight pairs of next shorts some new with tags the rest not had much wear. Paid £20 for the shorts and £6 postage £26 total, worked out a bargin at £3.20 a pair. This was two weeks ago, I paid within a minute of winning and the seller marked it as posted straight away, items have still not arrive. Today the postman brings me a card for a parcel with insufficient postage and I had to pay £4.25 in postage the seller put 1 normal 66p 2nd class stamp on the parcel. AIBU to think that was incredibly cheeky considering I paid £6 and the correct postage was under £5?

Yep.

Take a photo and raise a claim with eBay

DanielRicciardosSmile · 20/03/2021 18:05

I think YANBU.

ragtimeloves · 20/03/2021 18:07

Have you raised it with them. ..thats not on

inmyslippers · 20/03/2021 18:09

Contact the seller give them a chance to rectify. Failing that raise a case with eBay

LawnFever · 20/03/2021 18:09

I’d raise that with eBay and leave them negative feedback

eBay don’t get involved with postage cost disputes.

It could have been an honest mistake. Message the seller and explain the situation, give them a chance to put it right. If they don’t your only option is negative feedback.

sipsmith1 · 20/03/2021 18:12

I’ve raised a claim about postage before with eBay and got the money back

tiredmum2468 · 20/03/2021 18:14

That's not on
I've had it the other way round I've been charged about £4 and postage was £1.60
I asked for a postage refund and got some waffle about packaging and the women's "time"
I said she had 24 hrs to refund the difference and then I'd escalate it to eBay

Did you get anywhere? I’d agree £2.60 for packaging is a fair bit but I’d always expect to pay more for p&p than the actual cost of the postage and I wouldn’t expect a refund??

OP your situation is completely unfair, you’ve paid twice for the postage there. Definitely message the seller and see what they say.

Bettina500 · 20/03/2021 18:28

I agree message the seller and see what they say. Sticking two stamps on a clothing bundle parcel can't be a mistake.

RandomMess · 20/03/2021 18:28

How does the seller even know you've received them if they haven't sent them signed for?

amylou8 · 20/03/2021 18:29

You agreed to pay the £6 postage, and were happy with the overall price. You can't really grumble about that, whatever postage actually cost. eBay fees are extortionate, and get charged on postage costs. Some sellers choose to cover them by upping their postage costs. What you can grumble about is the charge you had to pay for the insufficient postage. Contact the seller, it may be a genuine mistake or stamps coming away in the post. The seller should refund you the extra cost you've had to pay. If they don't you'll need to open a request with eBay.

You're aware she paid for postage twice, right?

Errm she wasn't moaning about paying the 6 quid postage. Shes wuote rightly pissed that she's then had to pay a further £4.25 because the seller only used 1 second class stamp.

Absolutely get in touch with the seller OP bit I suspect they wont want to take responsibility for being such a daft idiot so I'd be anticipating that you would have to get ebay involved.

NewPapaGuinea · 20/03/2021 18:36

If you were really spiteful you could claim they never arrived as she hasn’t sent them tracked. I’d never do that though.

TyneTeas · 20/03/2021 18:40

I received an item with an insufficient postage paid charge a few months ago, took photo, contacted seller and they refunded the amount (plus a bit) straight away with apologies

Presumably you knew the shipping charge before? It's really annoying when buyers know the charge, and then complain after. Do you know that Ebay takes 10% of that money? Paypal then take another chunk. And there is the price of the packaging. And a lot of us have to travel to the post office. When sellers are totally upfront about shipping, then you are agreeing to that when you bid.
Thisgirlcando · 20/03/2021 19:06

£4 and postage was £1.60

I think £4 is reasonable
£1.60 postage
£1.20 for the packaging
£0.40 for petrol to post it
£0.80 for her time

If you ordered from an online shop it’s around £3.50 for standard delivery and they can buy packaging in bulk

Standrewsschool · 20/03/2021 19:17

If you paid £6 for postage and packing, then the seller should not have put one 66p stamp on it. Depending on size, parcels cost £3.20 or £5.80 second class, so well under the £6 paid.

parcel costs

I would pipit in a dispute also.

KirstenBlest · 20/03/2021 19:19

I put the same charge on things and sometimes it is less, occasionally more. I wouldn't quibble over a £3.20 charge that was only £1.60.

Packaging costs. Ebay takes a cut. Paypal takes a chunk.

@Juk3, I'd raise a claim with Ebay and would leave truthful feedback.

Juk3 · 20/03/2021 19:24

I paid the seller £6 postage as I said earlier I was happy to pay as with postage and price of the shorts it was just over £3 a pair an absolute bargin. What I am complaining about is I paid the £6 and the seller put 1 66p normal letter second class stamp on the parcel. Today I had to go online and pay Royal Mail for the postage as the seller failed to do so, so I have paid the postage cost twice.

Did you read the OP? Because that is exactly what she is grumbling about. 🙄
