It’s irresponsible to buy 2 puppies at 94

I don’t think it’s at all responsible at 94 to be buying puppies

I also don’t think it’s responsible buying through the pets4home website

yes.. its irresponsible to get pregnant at 94 too

Happytentoes · 20/03/2021 07:44

You are not being unreasonable there. Take it a family member has done this ?

Happytentoes · 20/03/2021 07:45

@Sea12 😂😂😂

DinosaurDiana · 20/03/2021 07:45

I think it’s more irresponsible to sell a 94 year old a puppy.

YanTanTethera123 · 20/03/2021 07:45

I assume you’re referring to HM The Queen?
She’s hardly going to be running around cleaning up after them OP!

LadyWithLapdog · 20/03/2021 07:47

Did she buy them? I thought she (in)bred them. Aren’t they all offspring of the ones she has already?

ragged · 20/03/2021 07:50

Is it irresponsible at 84? 74? Where is the "irresponsible" cut off?

MarinPrime · 20/03/2021 07:50

She's the Queen, she can buy what she likes Grin.
It's not as if she's living a tiny flat with no friends or family.
The pups won't starve to death or be abandoned if she dies.

Sundances · 20/03/2021 07:53

I wonder what will happen to all the pets that have been bought in lockdown if normal life / trips abroad/ weekends away / working in the office start up.
Anyway want to set up a kennel or cattery - there will be huge demand?

MindyStClaire · 20/03/2021 07:54

Shock Thought this was going to be about the Queen, but figured not when I read the OP and saw the website. But apparently she really did! That's kind of hilarious.

I'd agree with you in general OP, but I think in this case it's ok, it's not like there isn't a large staff to do the grunt work and a large wealthy family of dog lovers to take them in when the time comes.

I agree there are loads of double standards where a monarchy is concerned, but I can't get worked up about this one!

And the award for the reachiest way to be judgey about the RF goes to....

Actually this is a much better point I hadn’t initially considered

However, I don’t think the seller knew who they were selling to and didn’t meet the real owner

Also, I’d like to confirm - I adore the queen.

This is lighthearted if you couldn’t tell Wink

Indeed, I imagine there will be plenary of staff who get close enough to ten dogs to be happy to look after them long term anyway

They are quite cute 🥰

Stickytreacle · 20/03/2021 08:00

I don't think those dogs will end up neglected, abandoned or in rescue though, unlike many others. I'd imagine she's still buying and selling numerous equines too.

Good question - 50?

My parents are nearly 70 and were thinking about it after losing one of their old dogs. But luckily they are rehoming a dog instead
(Absolutely no idea)

That’s what I thought too. The article says she bought them through pets4homes Shock

The 2 puppies in question are going to be very looked after! No doubt that they will have someone dedicated to look after just them. Their every need catered for no matter the expense. They are very very lucky puppies.

Shame more puppies on the pets4home site don’t get bought by someone who will be able to give them a lavish lifestyle.

wetotter · 20/03/2021 08:03

If you have a rock solid plan for who will look after the dogs when you can't, including after your demise, then why shouldn't a life-long dog owner (and breeder) have canine company in their dotage?

NVision · 20/03/2021 08:03

I'm not a royalist at all but it's quite clear they will be looked after by staff and the Queen at her enjoyment. I'm sure if she passed shortly they would go to another family member or staff member who would also provide a good home.

Weedsnseeds1 · 20/03/2021 08:04

I find it more irresponsible that the breeder was happily selling a puppy on line with no idea who had bought it, or where it was going!

Yes this highlights a real issue

"It is believed the dogs were a gift and the first the Queen has owned that are not direct descendants from a corgi called Susan that she received for her 18th birthday in 1944"

The PetsAtHome bit is almost certainly a tabloid invention. Contact with breeders on line, maybe via KC, isn't unusual during covid when usual contact is suspended
