To ask how much you spend on children's clothes and shoes

Have posted on money matters too but seeing if anyone else can contribute.

How much do you roughly spend per month or year on your children's shoes and clothes? I'm trying to budget and struggling to work it out. My kids are 2.5 and 5 months so no school uniform etc yet.
I know shoes cost a bloody fortune and I normally buy second hand clothes but haven't been able to recently.

Well nothing really on my second, as they wear the older kids clothes. I do get him new shoes though so maybe £25 every 3-4 months.

Oldest, again very lucky to get hand me downs from neighbours and friends so maybe about £20 every 3 months and new shoes so about £30
Every 3-4 months.

6 and 4 year old. I'm a bit addicted to buying them clothes tho, so probably £50-£75 each a month.

Jumpers268 · 20/03/2021 07:50

My son is 6 and I probably spend maybe £60-£100 on clothes every 6 months or so. I try and get second stuff on eBay/Facebook and only really buy when he's grown out of stuff. Also I used to get Next clothes but the quality has gone to shit and now normally just get supermarket stuff.

Shoes I buy new and probably spend £200 on shoes in a year (including school shoes and wellies).

School uniform prices are an actual joke. He has to wear logo'd polo shirts which I think is ridiculous and logo'd pe kits. Costs around £300 per school year. Doesn't help that schools been shut for the majority of it haha.

This month so far
4 bits in the joules sale £85
Tracksuit from Asda £12
Underwear for both £30
Some second hand Boden bits £30
Pjs £30
Tights from H&M £25
So around £200.
I need to stop tho! My spending on clothes is a bit silly.

Figures are approx but :
£85 on shoes per year. 1 pair of wellies, 1 pair of walking boots, 1pair of smart/casual type shoes, pair of sandals. I'm lucky in that they never seemto need more than one a year in terms of growth.
Pjs: £40-50 per year. These are usually Xmas / birthday presents though (summer born babies). 3 pairs of short ones, one long one.
Dressing gown : £15-20 per year.
Pants and socks : £20 per year
Long sleeved t shirts : £20p year
T shirts :£20 per year
Trousers /jeans/shorts : £100 (3 jeans, 3 shorts, 3 joggers)
Waterproof coat :£30-50 per year
Total : £365 per year. I put away £300 for budgeting purposes. I have three kids and live frugally and don't place value on clothes beyond them functioning! Shop mainly at verbaudet, outdoor shops, supermarkets and primark as it suits my kids and budget. Hope that helps! Ps we home ed so no school uniform.

At the moment not a lot (pre school age). Mostly joggy bottoms and plain sweatshirts for about a fiver per item. A few vests and socks, maybe a coat and hat, and a couple of pairs of shoes. About £300 per year I think. In non Covid times I might have bought a few smart items too. The main expense is slippers and shoes.

I have two children and tend to buy them a set of Autumn/Winter clothes (and a coat and shoes/boots) and then spring/summer clothes. Dd1, who is 9, only needs new shoes about twice a year. She'll get a pair of Dr Martens each time, clarks school shoes and, usually, Sketchers trainers. Her footware costs around £500 a year. Her clothes around £300 a year (lots of cheap black leggings from sainsburys, next t-shirts and John Lewis jumpers/goats) split between the two times I buy each set. My son, aged 3, gets new Clarks shoes every couple of months costing £40 a time. When I buy his clothes twice a year, I usually spend £150 each time. His clothes are from Boden, Jo Jo Maman Bebe or John Lewis. Lots of rugby tops, cord trousers or cotton shorts.

Shoes
1xschool@£25,1xtrainers@£25,1×wellies@£10,1×crocs@£5 =£65
Clothes
Supermarket tops, joggers, jeans, leggings, shorts £50
Nice bits £50
Swimming/hats/etc £30
Coat £15 bought in sale =£145
£210ish per year per child?

iluvpickles · 20/03/2021 08:15

I have 3yr old and 1yr old. Both girls so I do have all my firsts clothes. Also get some stuff from older cousins now and again. Budget used to be £40 per month when it was 1 child but I often went over, I love shopping for them, have a bit of an addiction.

It's now £50 per month, well that's what I put away in a separate account for clothes but recently it's went down to £100 from £500 😆 went a bit crazy on the last next and river island sale! I'll def have to up my budget though as the account is going down fast! I also sell their old stuff so that helps make a bit of money to buy new stuff and I do quite well from that.

DipSwimSwoosh · 20/03/2021 08:18

Maybe a bit more with all the bits you don't notice like slippers, underwear, onsie. So £250 per child per year. I buy a lot in sales. H&m or mountain warehouse. And outlet stores M&S, Clarks etc
