To ask what is causing this diarrhoea

I'm so sorry for the graphic content but really don't know what to do.

Wednesday I got this overwhelming urge to have a bowel movement. It was extremely loose/runny.

Thursday had another episode.

This morning 2am I had a 3rd episode and since then have had 3 more episodes.

Its really turning yellow and got some mucus in it.

I've got a dull ache over my left sort of ovary area.

I've not eaten or drank anything different, not had any nausea or anything other than the diarrhoea.

Any idea what it might be? Should I take imodeiun or let it run its course (no pun intended! )

I hate to say it, but diahorrea is recognised by some as an early symptom of Coronavirus.

Personally I'm a believer in letting it run it's course + drink lots of fluids but if you're worried call 111 for advice.

LudoBear · 19/03/2021 12:41

I've had the Pfizer vaccine 3 weeks ago and not been around anyone other than my mum and she's only been round me.

Not everything is Covid. But I do thing, as this is unusual for you and seems to be worsening, that you should call the GP.

NormanStangerson · 19/03/2021 14:25

Think*

Chanjer · 19/03/2021 14:27

It is definitely something to get checked out OP

minipie · 19/03/2021 14:30

What have you eaten? I’d be suspecting some sort of bug, likely from food or touching something outside the house. Some of these bugs will pass without treatment but some need medication. In your shoes I’d probably wait till Monday and then call the GP if it’s not better.

sleveen · 19/03/2021 14:33

Too much alcohol? Something not properly cooked?

partyatthepalace · 19/03/2021 14:36

It's probably a bug or you've eaten something, 3 days is not concerning - but on Monday ring your GP to drop of a sample if it hasn't cleared.

It will probably clear tomorrow. Drink lots of fluids, avoid immodium unless you really have to as you want to try and clear whatever is annoying it.

HardcoreParkour · 19/03/2021 14:51

Are you worried about anything? Anxiety does this to me.

Comfortzone · 19/03/2021 14:58

Imodium tablets - on the packet it says it should clear up within a week or 5 days

Eat Salted crackers or crisps.

Banana or plain boiled rice or pure apple juice or dry toast. It's called the BRAT diet for diarrhoea

Remember giving these foods to my toddlers when they had it as advised by a health nurse. Worked wonders.

Have a nap and early bed

ChristmasFluff · 19/03/2021 16:37

There are lots of things this could be down to, including irritable bowel, so please do not take imodium, as this worsens irritable bowel massively. It's also not great if you have an infection, as all the bacteria your bowel is trying to shit out get to stay inside and multiply within your body.

With it being yellow and having mucous in it, speak to your doctor on monday if it hasn't cleared up as there are various things it could be, especially if it's in response to fatty foods.

If you begin to feel in more pain or develop a temperature, call the out of hours GP service or 111 for advice.

cheeseybeans19 · 19/03/2021 16:55

Have you ever had any other tummy troubles? I have coeliac disease and yellow mucousy stools and tummy ache was a main symptom before I was diagnosed and also if I accidentally eat gluten now, might be worth considering speaking to GP if you have ever had any other problems

BaggoMcoys · 19/03/2021 16:57

I had a really bad bout of diarrhoea a few weeks ago. I never get it usually so was worried about covid. I ordered an at home test and it was fine and my diarrhoea cleared up within a few days. I felt awful for about 2 weeks after though. I put it down to a bug of some sort. I hope you feel better soon.

YukoandHiro · 19/03/2021 16:59

BRAT diet, drink some rehydration salts and call the GP on Monday if it hasn't shifted by then

LemonMeringueThreePointOneFour · 19/03/2021 17:00

Interesting. I've been prescribed Loperamide for IBS. Were you told this by a GP or some other medic?

CharlotteRose90 · 19/03/2021 17:03

Oh god sounds like the Delhi belly. Have you had any takeaways or food not cooked by yourself. All I’ll say is eat bland food like toast or porridge, water, flat sugared drinks and grab some rehydration sachets if you can. Should go in a couple days .

I have ibs and ibd and have been told by numerous consultants that if you are bad Imodium is fine to take. As long as it’s not regular it’s fine and won’t cause any problems.
EggysMom · 19/03/2021 17:04

Have you eaten anything odd recently? I recently binged on Refresher sweets, the original hard/fizzy version, and promptly had a week of diarrhoea that cleared up once I realised the sweets had caused it and stopped eating them (obviously too much maltodextrin} Grin I guess I can't eat sweets like I did when I was ten years old.

IHaveBrilloHair · 19/03/2021 17:04

Me too, though I only take it if its bad and I need to go out.
You shouldn't take it for bugs as diarrhoea is your body's way if getting rid of it, but for IBS, no reason not to.

LudoBear · 19/03/2021 18:31

Thanks everyone. Not eating anything different, no take aways or anything. Thankfully no more episodes since this morning so hoping I'm fixed! I wouldn't normally post about such things on a forum but was a little concerned. I'll ring doc on Monday if it doesn't clear.

How are you feeling now?

LudoBear · 21/03/2021 07:33

Hi all good thanks you! Ate very bland food for 24 hours then had a kebab last night with no issues.

sleveen · 21/03/2021 07:34

Great! A kebab would be a test of my intestines lol.
