That my kids don't appreciate the value of hard work?

my ds1 has never worked a day in their life and is particularly needy. He spends all day in his room alone playing with himself. Doesn't say a word of thanks for the 3 jobs I work to put food on the table for him.

Ummmm...: “playing with himself”? Depends how old he is. If he’s 5: he’s a bit Hong to go out to work

abstractzebra · 18/03/2021 16:29

If he's 30 then this is probably not a good thing. If he's 5, well, it's probably ok.
You haven't really provided enough information.
What he does when he is in his own room is his own business really! Confused

You definitely aren't being unreasonable hun! Kids these days don't know they're born!!!! Send him to work I say, I had to go to work and contribute from the age of 13 and it never did me any harm (apart from the chemical burns from that one spiral perm lol)!

GL hun! I hope he stops being a shit soon x

VettiyaIruken · 18/03/2021 16:32

How old is he?

You get what you allow tbh. 🤷‍♀️ Don't like it? Change it.

yes age is needed :D

and I agree - you are letting him do it - maybe make him work for his 'alone time'

Both of my teens work and pay for their own stuff and they have since they where 16 - even my 12 year old volunteers at a stable from 8:30 to 4 on a Sat!

SmidgenofaPigeon · 18/03/2021 16:34

Send him down the chalk pits or get him to work in a cotton factory? Once he’s lost a limb and/or been beaten by his superiors I’m sure he’ll appreciate you more. You could definitely just cut back his meals to gruel in the meantime, until you find him a suitable position.

As others have said, age?

Thatcherite · 18/03/2021 16:42

this is my first post here and I was so embarrassed about it and everyone is really welcoming and helpful. I'll try approaching it over dinner this evening and get back to everyone tomorrow on progress. Maybe it really is as easy as just talking it out.

Sorry to joke OP. Revealing his age would really make a big difference to the context of this though!

All of mine were told that under my roof that we are paying for they are either in education or working. It's that simple unless there are underlying issues, my youngest is ASD so he gets some slack but he doesn't get a free pass.
