To burn everything?

Have just pulled out the kids Barbie box to be greeted by a heap of mouse droppings.

The cat is constantly bringing in live mice and clearly this one got away.

I've put down a humane mouse trap to catch him, but what do I do now? I don't know where he's been or where he's done his business? The room I found the droppings in is full of toys and IKEA storage so he could have gone anywhere?

Do I need to get rid of all the Barbies? Do I need to bleach everything the whole room?

Just clean everything, there is no need to throw everything away. I have had mice in the past, I have used mousetraps and just thoroughly cleaned all closed containers and cupboards, but thrown away any open food that may have been contaminated.

washing with soap and water or washing up liquid should be ok as long as you have got rid of any visible dirt. you could add disinfectant to things that are quite robust. apparently lego can be washed in the washing machine on thrity or forty degrees.

work through it gradually. try to put the washed things into clean sealed boxes, (the clippy ones) so you are not having to repeat stuff.

have had to do this for various reasons, though not mice.

I'd put all the Barbie's, clothes etc in the bath with some soap or disinfectant. Carefully inspect before giving back to children for damage.
