Parking

Would it annoy you if someone was parked over your drive but were still sat in the car?

Well no. They just stopped then. Not parked. And are there so they can move when needed.

BrumBoo · 17/03/2021 21:24

For anything up to 10 minutes, no. Getting a paper out and obviously going to take their sweet time? I'd be cross about that, yes.

FuckyouCovid21 · 17/03/2021 21:27

No unless I was waiting to go out and they weren't moving

Whynotnowbaby · 17/03/2021 21:32

Yes, it’s my property and I don’t know why they would imagine this was ok. Using my driveway to turn around in -I can just about put up with... parking and sitting in your car, just why? I’m surprised so many think it’s ok!

PembrokeshireDreaming · 17/03/2021 21:33

I live very close to a school, there are parking restrictions outside my house, people like to stop across my drive to drop off their kids, it really annoys me when they pull up as I am in the car with the engine running trying to pull off the drive to take my disabled son to school!!!!
They often smile at me as I wait..................Grrrrrrrrrrr

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/03/2021 21:34

There is a difference to stop over the drive and stop ON someone's driveway though. The latter is a nono even if person is in a car for example just waiting for someone to come up from nearby house.

CoffeeRunner · 17/03/2021 21:35

Not if they were sat in the car no.

If you want to go out you just ask them to move surely?

The road outside your house is not your property.

I'd be slightly annoyed if I was going out. I wouldn't be bothered if they had just pulled up to take a call and would move if needed. Much better to pull over and take the call than drive on the phone!

Sirzy · 17/03/2021 21:41

If they where sat in the car and moved straight away if I had to go out then I wouldn’t have an issue

Scoobydoobywho · 17/03/2021 21:42

We are very near a school so parking is an issue. I've lost count how many messages the school has sent out to park considerably. I think this one lady who does it regularly really annoys me because she never seems to park properly. Over driveways, double yellow lines and right on a junction with double yellow lines. It's like she needs to be as close as possible.

How does the voting work on this?

No, if I needed to get out I'm sure I could ask the person to move their car
stealthninjamum · 17/03/2021 22:20

This annoys me. I live quite near a junction and I swear people drive across it and then decide to park In front of my driveway to make phone calls or maybe check their sat nav but they could just drive another fifty feet and just park in one of the many parking spaces just past my house. EVen if I don’t need to use my car it just seems so rude that someone thinks they can just block my drive as it’s more convenient for them.

Travis1 · 17/03/2021 22:22

If only you could use your words 🙄

Didyoureadtheinstructions · 17/03/2021 22:23

I assume the people who don’t mind don’t live near a school. The constant shit parking twice a day 5 days a week makes you less tolerant.

If in doubt, always vote YABU.

If only for the reason of the poster needing vaiidation from a bunch of Internet strangers.

Scoobydoobywho · 17/03/2021 22:37
  • @travis1* funnily enough I have used my words, doesn't seem to stop her though. But thank you for the suggestion.

Do you have a friend or neighbour with a car who’s be willing to help out. Park on the street either side of your driveway. When she parks pull forwards/rearward so you’re bumper to bumper three cars in a row.

This is so true.

I have been told by others that other people's shit parking was my own fault for buying a house across from a school.

Oh. And, how lucky I am to be able to have a driveway. mmmmm....

NoseOfJericho · 18/03/2021 14:00

Sitting in the car, reading or on the phone and prepared to move, no problem.

Sitting in the car with music blasting out or yelling into the phone so it can be heard streets away, as some do these days, not OK.

Not keen on people turning in the drive though as the wear and tear on ours isn't doing it any good, and have had one car bumper pranged already. No need to turn either as they can go to the top and down the next turning which would be just as quick.

Helleofabore · 18/03/2021 14:07

I feel your pain. I am in a similar situation. I have answered that you ARE being unreasonable if it is a one off and not for long at all. And that they are willing to move as soon as they are asked with no abuse or argument.

You are definitely NOT being unreasonable if this is a regular occurrence and this is a regular Cheeky Parker who thinks this is their personal waiting space.

In my own borough, I have had it clarified that in fact, the only people who have the authority to park over my drive is a residence of my home before it had double yellow lines. It is only with authority from a resident, that anyone can park there across the driveway. So those stating you do not 'own' the road, actually, you kind of do in a way that you can park there or authorise someone who parks there.

I now have double yellows, so I do not know quite if I can even do that now. I don't think I can.

People cannot wait on double yellows either.

Time to talk to your school again. In my case, people waiting or parking over my drive reduces dramatically the visibility of the children crossing the road to enter the school gate (there is no formal crossing place able to be placed on this road) . The school has in the past asked for a photo of the car and they send it out in a newsletter with a request for the illegal parking and waiting to stop.

HTH

ClaudiaWankleman · 18/03/2021 14:12

Reverse onto the drive. Sit in car with hand on the horn. Smile manically, ensuring you make eye contact.

In reality I would silently seethe.

dworky · 18/03/2021 14:30

Yes because they shouldn't park there.

eurochick · 18/03/2021 14:33

@Travis1 how patronising and unhelpful.
