...to ask if you work for 101?

And, if so, what’s the weirdest/most ridiculous call you’ve ever had?

The amount of times I see “log it with 101” on threads here makes me think that poor 101 operators must get a constant stream of very random queries.

Don't think they'd be able to tell you due to confidentiality.

Kroptopbelly · 17/03/2021 17:18

Things widely publicised like pizza being late!

Givemeabreak88 · 17/03/2021 17:41

Yeh I don’t imagine they would be able to say but I did hear one about a pigeon flying into someone’s house

Redglitter · 17/03/2021 17:48

I work in a Cintrol Room so we get the calls once they're 'logged' 🙄

Ffs what do they think we can do is a regular comment made.

People seem to think whatever their problem is 101 is the answer (as demonstrated on here)

Things like small fires being reported - because 'I didn't want to disturb the fire service' or minor injuries because 'I know the paramedics are busy' are regulars.

So.is the number of people expecting Police to parent their children. Its incredible how often parents expect us to step in and help them.

I could write a book!!!!

There was a thread recently where someone had a call from someone they didn’t know, an obvious wrong number, and they were told to log it with 101.

I always wonder if calls to 101 are:
20% relevant non-emergency calls
40% “my neighbour said she saw a white van near our street”
40% “I’ve chopped my head off but don’t want to bother anyone by going to the emergency room”.

Lots of mental health, concerns for welfare because they’ve not heard from someone for a few days but are too busy/don’t want to go round themselves so ask the police to go. Reporting dodgy vehicles/no tax MOT. Lots of general neighbour disputes that should be a council issue but always get told ‘the council don’t do anything’. List is endless but it’s worth it for the many non issues/jobs that fall to the police as we have a duty of care to have genuine calls where you’re helping someone/saving someone’s life

ThePlantsitter · 19/03/2021 14:20

What is 101 for then exactly?

Finfintytint · 19/03/2021 14:22

Non emergency Police matters not Facebook nastiness, Neighbour keeps moving my bin and I saw a blue car driving very slowly two weeks ago type of calls.
TravellingSpoon · 19/03/2021 14:25

Not the same But I used to work as a Health Care Advisor for NHS Direct and I remember taking a call from woman whose Husband was choking and turning blue but it was a saturday night and she thought the ambulance service would be too busy to be bothered by her call.

I still think about what happened to her and her husband as I handed it over to Ambulance Control.

HarleyQuinn21 · 19/03/2021 14:26

Just to say it is okay for people to share their stories as long as it's general, " A woman called to say a white van was parked outside" doesn't break confidentiality rules but "Lucy from Mumsnet road called on 9378922 to say a white van was parked outside" would, well as far as I'm aware anyway.

QueenPaw · 19/03/2021 14:28

Not 101 but I once took a call for a cut finger. They completely forgot to mention the giant chest wound...

ThePlantsitter · 19/03/2021 14:35

So presumably mental health and welfare checks/reporting dodgy vehicles is ok then? I couldn't tell from your post @z0fl0ra.

I personally have not used it for any bin disputes or surveillance observations but life is quite boring at the moment so you never know.
