To be afraid of Priti Patel's bill

And even more afraid at the lack of reaction in the wider public.
It allows the government to determine which protests they find annoying, and hand out sentences of 10 years in jail to protesters on non-violent protests.
It allows them the power to seize the homes of travellers, which means that their children are more vulnerable to be taken into care.
And most people just don't seem to care.

I disagree that people don't care. Unfortunately too many people in December 2019 thought that a government led by a former terrorist sympathiser was a worse alternative.

And over 80,000 Tory members and c160 Tory MPs thought that Michael Gove or Jeremy Hunt would not be as good as Boris Johnson.

I'm terrified. It's a horrifying state of affairs when outside of my (very political) Twitter feed I've seen almost nothing about the Government taking yet another big step along the road to fascism.

@JellyBabiesFan I think you'll find we already have existing laws that enable police/authorities to safely remove protestors/activists who are acting in a way that poses a danger to themselves or others, we don't need new law for this at all.

I'm certainly not in favour of enabling the police to be police, jury, judge and imprisoners - that is not their role, we have a judicial system for a reason - to ensure everyone gets a fair crack at defending themselves.

What you are describing is state sanctioned bullying of those who disagree with the state

@skirk64 completely disagree with your opinion, I hardly know where to begin!

You benefit from the rights gained by people who in the past behaved exactly as you describe - especially if you are a woman, working class or otherwise in an oppressed group

This bill is worded extremely carefully such that basically the Home Secretary will have total authority to ban any protest they choose.

Given WHO the current home sec is I find that bloody terrifying!

@PantherPantherus she has also acted despicably, dishonestly and corruptly WHILE IN OFFICE

I am no star, I am genuinely a very scared, very concerned citizen. But I appreciate the sentiment
