To hate - I was today years old

This phrase is everywhere and it's driving me insane.

You were not today years old when you found out 😡 you found out today

Does this annoy anyone else or am I just turning j to the grumpy old woman I was born to be? Are there any other words or phrases drive you insane??

Needs done...

StillCoughingandLaughing · 17/03/2021 12:35

Does everything you say have to follow the rules of logic, Ms Spock?

If you’re old enough to remember Hale and space, you’re a little too old for childish digs like this.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 17/03/2021 12:37

I’ve never heard it before!

clpsmum · 17/03/2021 13:12

@ExhaustedFlamingo chill ax is the one that started the grumpiness for me. Exactly it evokes the opposite effect in me!

OP posts:
clpsmum · 17/03/2021 13:14

@TeenMinusTests it basically means today I found out

Wish they'd just say that

@Flibbitygibbit

I hate “super” as in super clean, super smart ahhhhhhhh makes my teeth itch
Hate the dismal Mumsnet cliche “makes my teeth itch.”
clpsmum · 17/03/2021 13:17

@Aprilx yes that's exactly it. Instead of saying today I found it, it changes to
I was today years old when I found out

@Thehawki I'm aware what it means but it's ridiculous

OP posts:
clpsmum · 17/03/2021 13:20

@Thehawki and clearly you're so much trendier than me and this is no new to you because you've been using it for five years and you typically use new and evolving language faster than anyone.

Many I remind you that my generation taught you to speak and use language

OP posts:
clpsmum · 17/03/2021 13:20

@Borntohula I'm aware of its meaning but I think it's ridiculous

Anoisagusaris · 17/03/2021 13:26

Dear Reader

This, This one, When... (all as captions to FB pictures usually eg ‘when you can be bothered to write a full sentence’ followed by a picture of something).

Gifted

clpsmum · 17/03/2021 13:28

My truth is another one! Sorry for all who I have offended I really am a grumpy old woman. I have much bigger things to worry about too tbh lol

OP posts:
FurrySlipperBoots · 17/03/2021 13:35

I hate the recent trend for saying 'Gifted'; 'My parents gifted me a car'/'I gifted my DH a watch' - What the hell is wrong with 'gave'?!

CounsellorTroi · 17/03/2021 13:50

"Gifting" to me suggests giving away, making a gift of something you own. Not giving someone something you've bought or made specially.

ktp100 · 17/03/2021 14:07

Other people enjoy it, clearly. There is so much dumb shit on SM now you could spend all day every day eeewing at different things.

As far as Mumsnet goes, I personally hate all of the 'guess how old I am' thirstiness on here recently but who gives a shit what I like or don't?

I guess just don't open annoying threads?

TheChippendenSpook · 17/03/2021 14:09

FoonySpucker

I apologise for offending you and calling you lazy.

'Needs gone' doesn't make sense to me though.

Thehawki · 17/03/2021 14:36

Sorry I really didn’t mean for it to be taken that way! I was only trying to say that it’s been used in my social circles for a while now, it’s just ‘meme speak’ that’s slowly made it into the more mainstream sphere. I have no idea how old you are, but every generation before you or I have had their own weird quirks and language that now seem out dated. I’m really sorry if my comment came across snarky, I was trying to point out that I might have known longer because I’m in a different stage in life/speak to other people and consume different media. Not trying to say you couldn’t be ‘hip’ enough to know!

FoonySpucker · 17/03/2021 14:46

@TheChippendenSpook

No worries - not offended in the slightest Grin

kissmelittleass · 17/03/2021 14:52

Yes my people 🤪 my truth your truth, my bad, obvs, wtf is wrong with talking properly does my head in absolute bull shit 😡

DK123 · 17/03/2021 15:07

"I too," eg "I too think that it is shit." It sounds awkward and grammatically wrong, even though I suppose it's not, but it irritates me because it sounds so self important. Ohh, well if you too deign to agree, it simply must be the case....

Also, why is everything a package these days? Book some appointments with a personal trainer, it's a "package," it could even be a "bespoke" or a "curated" one. I should hope it's "bespoke," because I'm not booking it for anyone else. "Package" ffs - It's just the action of booking more than one appointment at once. Such pretentious crap.

Oooohbehave · 17/03/2021 15:45

I hate people referring to their friends/children as ‘humans’. Eg, lunch with my favourite human, tiny humans etc piss off and stop trying to be cute, you’re fucking forty years old!

TheYearOfSmallThings · 17/03/2021 15:55

I was thinking of this thread before lunch as I sat listening to a management consultant shiteing on about "transformational change".
