Neighbour throwing cat poo into my garden

I think my cat hating neighbour has thrown bagged cat poo into my back garden. It would be cat poo from my cats who like to shit in her lovely lovely garden.

I have two children under three and we were playing in the garden this morning when I spotted the bag (looked like a fragranced sanitary bag) in the top corner of our garden filled with what is most definitely cat turds - although I couldn't confirm if they are from my cats of course.

We've lived here 3 years. Had cats for two. She's a proud gardener and my entitled cats love to shit in her vegetable patch and play on her lawn. I've seen her chasing them off/ throwing water at them, putting chicken wire and spikes on the fence to try and stop them getting over. They enjoy the challenge. If I see them in her garden I try to entice them back to mine with treats. As long as she isn't hurting them I don't mind her chasing them off. Not everyone loves cats and that's fine. It's complicated by the fact the old lady next door again loves my cats and frequently lets them in and spoils them. So our shared neighbour's garden is a passage way to tastier cat food and non stop affection.

My back fence is very tall and has no back access. It backs on to a main-ish road. After my back fence is a little stone wall about a metre tall which is filled with prickly blackberry bushes, then the path, then the road. My point being here is that if a dog walker was going to dump a bag of poo from the main road they could easily toss it into the blackberry bushes and not be noticed rather than throwing it miles over my fence to land in my garden. My other next door neighbour has a scary dog so my cats don't dare visit that garden.

I can't prove it's her but the fact that it's cat poo and where it's landed makes it quite probable. I have an indoor and outdoor litter tray but cannot control where they roam.

Whilst I sympathise it's annoying for her, I'm not breaking any law whereas I think she is by throwing things into my garden? If she's going to the trouble of bagging it why not just bin it instead of acting out of spite?

What should I do? Clear it up and forget it? Wait to see if more shows up? Loudly proclaim in the garden that I'm checking cctv for the culprit? Ask her directly? I've clearly and calmly explained to my cats not do do it anymore and am hopeful the message has got through.

Why are you being so sarcastic about your NDN ~ 'lovely lovely garden' , 'her magic gardening' .

If she's picked up your attitude towards her, I wouldn't blame her at all. Actually, she's not to blame anyway.

3JsMa · 16/03/2021 14:30

Your cats,your shit.
Sorry to be blunt but you have mentioned that your NDN went into trouble to bag it and she should dispose of it as well.Seriously? She is not obliged to clean HER garden because your cats decided to make it their toilet and playground.
I would be grateful if my neighbour will be so patient with my pets.

didofido · 16/03/2021 14:31

Buy your neighbour a water pistol. Works every time

Wroxie · 16/03/2021 14:32

Keep your cats inside. I'm sure the songbirds would appreciate the respite and then you would have no issue with where they shit.

Of course people in the UK seem convinced that cats are unable to exist indoors, in spite of the fact that American and Canadian cats seem to manage just fine.

Totallyfedup1979 · 16/03/2021 14:36

She brought you over daffs and apologised?!

Wow.

BigBamboo · 16/03/2021 14:39

Sorry, OP. I hate cats. I moved into my house 5 years ago and I used to have to pick up disgusting cat sh!t every day. The cheeky cat used to hiss at me when I tried to chase it off. In the end, I got a dog. I have to pick up his poo, but I love him so I don't mind.

People with cats just don't get it. Other people don't want your cat in their garden and do not want to buy poo bags and pick up your animals crap.

BuiltForComfortNotForSpeed · 16/03/2021 14:39

I really liked cats until I moved into a house with a garden. I've been picking up cat poop on a weekly basis for over 18 years and I've never owned a cat. Last year one of the local cats pooped all over my strawberry beds and, unbelievably, in the middle of my rhubarb plant. Had to bin my entire crop. Your neighbour has been admirably restrained.

Jaxhog · 16/03/2021 14:41

It's rather nice that she bags it up for you.

VeryQuaintIrene · 16/03/2021 14:41

I bet your neighbour has been taking tips from MN!

Janxyb · 16/03/2021 14:44

Our cat used to poop next door. Our neighbour also threw it back over the fence. He also threatened to shoot our cat but that's a whole other thread. Anyway.. the neighbour put spikes on his fence (ones for the purpose of cats not just rusty nails or anything.) We offered to buy a plant that is meant to deter cats and he went with a water pistol rather than a shotgun 😂. We haven't had any issues in over a year and I think our cat mostly stays well clear of his garden x

OliviaBensonsEyebrow · 16/03/2021 14:44

If you care for your out of control cats then you should be more careful with them. I know three cat killing dogs. Two labs and a dogue de Bordeaux. All three are lovely, friendly dogs but killed cats that went into their gardens.

GreenFingersWouldBeHandy · 16/03/2021 14:45

If this is all you have to worry about in life, count yourself lucky.

WildBluebell · 16/03/2021 14:45

I love cats, and I have a cat (we keep her indoors). But I absolutely hate when neighbours' cats shit in my garden. So I can totally sympathise with your neighbour.

BigBamboo · 16/03/2021 14:45

It's rather nice that she bags it up for you.

I would just pick it up with a plastic spade and flick it back over the fence.

Before I got my dog I spent money on high-pitched cat repellents and even bought some lion poo from the zoo. That is how much I hate picking up cat poo.

Pets often reflect their owners :) Halo

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 16/03/2021 14:48

I've taken to chucking my neighbors cat shits back over the fence. There's cats on both sides so each side gets one shit each in rotation.

Screwcorona · 16/03/2021 14:51

Another vote for go there every day and pick it up yourself.
Would you like someone elses pet pooping in your garden? At least this is coming over in bags

Wondermule · 16/03/2021 14:54

Op is just taking delight in being an arsehole.

I don’t believe for a second the neighbour is flinging cat shit one moment and going round there will flowers the next.

Op one day your cats will be elderly and incontinent, and you will be picking up their shit after all Grin

Fleetw00d · 16/03/2021 14:54

I once threw a dead mouse into my neighbours garden because their cats were playing with it on my patio so bagged up poo is not that bad. I think you should do everything possible to stop your cats going into her garden as it can be very annoying for people who don't own them or want them in your garden, especially if it's a space she's proud of and spends a lot of time in. If the cats really won't stop going into her garden then offer to go and clean up the poo daily like you would if you had a dog that you walked. Buy her those citrus jelly crystal things as deterrents that she can put in her flower bed, in fact buy her anything she wants to stop the cats from going in there.
Considering how much trouble she has gone to over the last two years to prevent the cats from going in her garden and this is the first time you've had it thrown into your garden I'd say is pretty good going and she must be really at the end of her tether, as I would be.
If I were her I would have bought a dog by now haha!

Cushionsnotpillows · 16/03/2021 14:57

Cat crap is disgusting, I'd fling it back over unbagged. You are very fortunate she hasn't taken any worse action when they've been doing this for years. Hate this attitude of cat owners "oh they have to roam". No they fucking don't. Keep them in your garden.

Taborlin · 16/03/2021 15:01

You admit you know know its your cats toileting in her garden and then complain when she gives you back the bagged waste. Lucky you to get it in scented bags where's she has to handle fresh shit.
Be a decent neighbour and offer to go and clean her flower beds veg garden daily or do what I have done and put cat netting up so your cats cannot get out of your garden.

Orgyofsausages · 16/03/2021 15:06

@FluffyHippo

Personally, I'd be emptying the bags through your letterbox.
Me too. How entitled you and your cats are, OP. Hmm.

Fair enough. Cat poo in the garden is disgusting. Cat owners don't give a shit though about their precious little furbabies impact on others.

Lolwhat · 16/03/2021 15:09

YABU

whiteshark · 16/03/2021 15:10

I offer a round of applause to your neighbour.
Cats are a pain the tits. I detest them wholeheartedly.
