To ask if you have this bin...

What bloody bin liners do you use?

www.johnlewis.com/joseph-joseph-intelligent-waste-totem-max-bin-60l/stone/p4107086

We don't have much space, carefully selected this bin to also help with recycling and composting. But it takes IW6 bags in the main compartment and they are never in stock anywhere. Does anyone have this bin? What on earth do you use?

I have this bin. I just use normal black bin bags! I only ever used the Joseph Joseph ones when I had the free ones when I bought it.

whistleinthewind · 15/03/2021 21:54

@ChessIsASport what like normal black bags? Not slim ones / extra large ones ? I did want to use theirs as I read they break down easier than normal plastic, but feels ludicrous that they aren't ever in stock!

I feel guilty now! I didn’t know that they break down more easily. I’ve just used normal bags, I think they are 60 or 90 Litre ones.

I just checked on Ocado and it is selling IW1 bags as being suitable for the main compartment of the bin. I don’t know if this is a mistake or if those bags fit too?

OwlinaTree · 15/03/2021 22:17

£125 for a bin! Shock

Dreamingofkfc · 15/03/2021 22:30

Just normal bin liners! It’s a fab bin and well worth the money

bumpertobumper · 15/03/2021 22:33

Do you have a wheelie bin? If so there is No need for bin liners at all, total waste of plastic, waste of money - just tip the rubbish in the wheelie, then they tip it in the truck.

if you have a separate food bin it rarely gets smelly at all, quick swoosh out now and then.

LouiseTrees · 15/03/2021 22:33

I have this bin. We get the bin liners from Amazon. Literally never had an issue getting them

caramac04 · 15/03/2021 22:36

We use bin liners from Aldi or Wilko’s.

AnnieJ1985 · 15/03/2021 22:36

We use Tesco white liners with yellow drawstring. I will check size in the morning. They are too long but I just leave the bottom folded up. They fit fine around top of the bin.

whistleinthewind · 16/03/2021 07:02

@LouiseTrees if you look for iw6 liners now, you'll see they come up out of stock Hmmhence asking. Unless you can use other sizes from J&J

OP posts:
whistleinthewind · 16/03/2021 07:03

@bumpertobumper I had thought of that, but wondered if that would contribute to rubbish flying around come bin day? Will see how we go!

OP posts:
whistleinthewind · 16/03/2021 07:04

Thanks all. As this is the Max bin I don't think other sizes fit the compartment. Will give normal black bin bags a try!

elaeocarpus · 16/03/2021 07:05

I use the aldi bags, 50l white, there are ones with yellow ties and ones without and both are ok. Slight stretch but generally good.

AnnieJ1985 · 16/03/2021 09:29

I checked this morning- same as @elaeocarpus I use the 50l bags. These are from Supervalu in Ireland, but the Tesco ones are the same fit. As I mentioned last night, they are too long, you can see on the left of the pic that the bag is still doubled up - but when the bin is full, I take out the bag, shake the rubbish to the bottom of the bag, and fill it up with the rubbish from other bins from around the house. They do need a bit of a stretch/wriggle to get them around the opening, but they work fine.

(Yes that is the dog's dirty towel to hide our manky rubbish 🤣 )

I’ve just replaced my old totem with this and am currently using the previous IW1bags up, they fit just fine

I buy my bags from Amazon and both sizes are in stock or at least were when I changed my bi monthly order from one to the other last week

SoosanCarter · 16/03/2021 09:44

Joseph Joseph are very helpful on the phone. I called them last year when I couldn’t find the IW2 anywhere. They said they were briefly out of stock but all would be fine soon.

rainbowunicorn · 16/03/2021 09:53

The simple human code F ones should fit

dotdashdashdash · 16/03/2021 10:34

Ours ask that all rubbish is bagged in our wheelie bin as it can fly around. So anyone planning this needs to check with their council guidance.
Cloudyrainsham · 16/03/2021 10:47

@OwlinaTree -it’s £180 not £125

Cloudyrainsham · 16/03/2021 10:49

I use Evaness 100% biodegradable bags. You can get them on eBay x

Cloudyrainsham · 16/03/2021 10:49

@dotdashdashdash - ours has to be bagged.

whistleinthewind · 16/03/2021 10:57

@ChessIsASport it's £125 for the stone one Smile I didn't spend the extra for the fancy colour!

whistleinthewind · 16/03/2021 11:00

@AnnieJ1985 I appreciate the effort! I think I will do this, as I tend to empty all the bins at the same time so this will also encourage me to go through those and only use one bin bag / reuse any bags in the bins in the office if it's all dry stuff.

Just because people don't seem to read all the posts.... everywhere is out of stock of IW6 bags that I shop at, Amazon, ocado, JL, Lakeland's..... everywhere. As of the day before yesterday when I ordered this bin. Hence my post asking.

AnnieJ1985 · 16/03/2021 11:06

You are welcome!

If I remember right, the bin comes with a few bags to start you off - I didn't bother looking for them after that, as they are pricey plus it is handier to thrown normal bags into my supermarket shop. The food bin is tiny but that is good for us, as there are only 2 of us and bigger bins get smelly. This way, we are emptying the food every day or so and the rubbish every couple of days. I love my bin!

My younger self would weep at the sadness of my being in love with a kitchen bin, but I don't care - I was sick of having different bins hogging the limited floorspace.

whistleinthewind · 16/03/2021 13:16

Ha! I was genuinely excited to purchase it. We are looking to start composting so the small food bin will be very helpful!!
