I've read comparisons tonight between a womans right to feel safe and blm protests. Obviously womans rights were at the back of the queue! Not comparible! Anyone else find this surprising?

I'm a little uncomfortable with the comparison with BLM. After all, 50% off the people for whom BLM is a very important movement will be women. I fear that hammering the women's rights vs BLM comparison may other black women. Which given that BAME women who disappear or are killed receive even less publicity than white women is a problem.

This is the media using divide and conquer techniques. Surely there is scope to call out more than one injustice. We should be looking at who is doing the oppressing rather than squabbling about who is the most oppressed. This is all a diversion.

I'm not uncomfortable. Surely both should respect each other? I've found it surprising that either can put the other down. My struggle is more difficult than yours. It's really not.

All types of discrimination are philosophically identical, and therefore comparable in theoretical terms.

But obviously the practical daily details of how a black person or a woman is discriminated against may differ. And of course if you are both black and a woman, the effects total more than the sum of their parts.

I think people objecting on Oppression Olympics grounds tend to be defensive about their own situation, and don't want it to be minimised. Which is understandable, but they could be more self-aware.

It's OK to admit that there are people worse off than you, and still feel that your own life is difficult. And to work towards making life easier for both of you.

@tabernacles 100% Yes.

Exactly this.
