Is Covid worse the second time around?

Not really AIBU but there’s traffic on here!
So that’s it really, to the people that have had Covid twice was it worse the second time or had your immune system naturally developed making it less severe?
I had Covid already and wasn’t too bad really but now I’m anxious that if I catch it again it could be a lot worse. Just wondered how other people may have been with it.

So UANBU is no not worse, exactly the same or slightly better
UABU is yes it’s much worse second time around

It’s extremely rare to get it twice. I wouldn’t worry about it.

Kitdeluca1 · 14/03/2021 19:46

@LizzieSiddal yes I know I don’t actually know anyone that has had it twice but I thought maybe someone out there has.

From what I’ve read, for the few that do get it twice, it’s not as bad the second time as your body already has some antibodies.

SnackSizeRaisin · 14/03/2021 19:49

If you get it twice it's likely to be much milder

Try asking in the dedicated coronavirus forum.

My husband and I have unfortunately had it twice. Symptoms were much milder the second time. First time, (last Easter) we developed pneumonia and DP had to go to hospital. Infections were 8 months apart, the incubation time much shorter second time around. (14 days first time, 5 days the second) the second time was not even as bad as having flu.

Kitdeluca1 · 14/03/2021 20:21

Thanks everyone!

@MummyJ12 thank you! This makes me feel so much better, when I had it I was very mild flu like symptoms if that. I was bedroom bound to avoid my kids but if I lived alone I could of carried on as normal. My incubation was 5 days when I had it.
Anxiety levels are definitely going down!

So glad you’re feeling better Flowers

I remember it was in the news about someone in the US who had it mildly the first time and was hospitalised the second time. I haven't heard anything about it being worse since though.

I think it's varied from what I understand.
Some people have had it milder, some worse.

I would imagine that if you had long covid, especially if you have had some organ damage which seems to occur in some cases, it would put you more at risk. However I haven't heard about any cases where that has been explicitly stated.
