Short notice. Need gift for a relative's child I've never met. 9yo girl, year 5. Budget about £50. Hit me with fail safe cool gifts please.

Why on earth are you spending £50 on a child you've never met??!

Sorry, not helpful. Not sure what 9 year old girls like in general. LoL Dolls?

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/03/2021 18:41

Also came to ask why you were spending so much on a child you'd never met..

But aside from that.. it's quite a chunk of money if you don't know what she likes, can you ask the parents what would be best? Or actually I'd be tempted to get some small things like bath bombs and give cash or a voucher, because £50 is a lot if it's going to be spent on something you have no idea if she'd even like or
play with.

Chillychangchoo · 14/03/2021 18:41

I have a 9 year old, too old for LOL dolls. They all like different things at this age so you wouldn’t possibly know what was a good present to buy.

My 9 year old would appreciate bath bombs, comfy slippers that sort of thing but not sure that costs 50 quid.

covetingthepreciousthings · 14/03/2021 18:42

If you have to spend the £50 I'd be tempted to just get some Lego maybe?

Lovemylittlebear · 14/03/2021 18:43

Hair chalks
Lelli Kelly shoes
Make your own bath bomb or lip balm sets
Stationary
Top model colouring books
Xx

I'd have loved lego at that age, but it's so difficult with a child you don't know. I can't even remember what generic stuff I was into at that age.
BrumBoo · 14/03/2021 18:45

Maybe just give her the £50 in a card...

Spied · 14/03/2021 18:46

Smiggle goodies
Lava lamp
River Island or New Look voucher (can be spent online)
'I dig monsters'
A bag of goodies from Claire's.
All things my DD 9 would love.

Nowmum43 · 14/03/2021 18:47

I would get an oodie, they love them

SpiderinaWingMirror · 14/03/2021 18:48

Havr a look at wicked uncle website. Always good for this type of problem.

OcelotPanda · 14/03/2021 18:49

I would seriously ask the relative for suggestions. 9 year old girls are very different and that is a massive amount of money.

PeteGibbons · 14/03/2021 18:50

For that amount of money I'd spend a tenner on stationery or bath bombs then get a voucher with the rest. I feel like it's too much money to just make a random guess.

babybythesea · 14/03/2021 18:51

DD loves lights. Fairy light type stuff that she can put in her room. She’s got a set of little clothes pegs on a line that light up that you clip photographs into, and some curtain lights, and a light box where you put different letters in... if it glows, we appear to have it. She also has a desk lamp that changes colour. Sometimes it’s like living in Blackpool illuminations.

Dressinggownchic · 14/03/2021 18:51

I have a 9yr old DD and she’s outgrown LOL dolls and Lelli Kelly shoes.

She likes...
Cool stationary, sharpies, good paints etc.
Clothes from Zara.
Onesies and pyjamas.
Nintendo switch games.
Lush.
Converse or Nike trainers.
Books - David Walliams in particular.
Games like monopoly, operation, colour brain.
Slime kits.

She also loves getting money to order a treat online if her choosing.

Aroundtheworldin80moves · 14/03/2021 18:54

My 9yo likes books, baking, camping, watersports, craft, science kits, Lego (Harry Potter and Dots) and Beanie Boos.
Doesn't like dolls, pink things, other toys or gaming.

You need to ask for guidance.

Bythehairywartsonmywitchychin · 14/03/2021 18:56

Each child is different, I’d ask the child’s parents for suggestions.

I also agree that spending £50 for a child you’ve never met sounds too much. I’d spend £20-£30 and put the money in a card

Ijustlikedthename · 14/03/2021 18:57

Lego dots

Ijustlikedthename · 14/03/2021 18:58

Hype lucky dip (backpack, clothes etc)

Ilovemaisie · 14/03/2021 18:59

As others had said - why are you spending £50 on a child you have never met? I often don't even spend £50 on my own child for her birthday.
Just ask the relative what's she is into or if there is anything particular she would like.
If you don't get a reply send a copy of whatever book was your favourite at age 9 with a note saying "I loved this book when I was your age. Hope you enjoy it too".

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 14/03/2021 18:59

stationary what?

ShouldHaveCouldHaveWouldHave · 14/03/2021 19:00

Mine asks for Barbies, Lush, River Island.
Her main bday present though was an animatronic baby Yoda so they’re all so different.
LoL dolls I’d say are too babyish, the only child I know who likes them is 5.
Oh mine also LOVES Paddington and Cat in the Hat so would be thrilled with a soft toy of one of those!!

Youarenothere · 14/03/2021 19:06

Best received gift for 9 year old Neice was a real mermaid tail to swim in from planet mermaid but I’d check with the parents

MuddleMoo · 14/03/2021 19:09

Not Smiggle some 9 year old are over it already Shock

Book voucher? H&M voucher?

UnbeatenMum · 14/03/2021 19:17

Mine is just 10 and would like a giant hoodie, baking stuff, cuddly toys, craft things, books, fidget toys or squishies. She also loves clothes but would probably need some input. Avoid anything too pink, my older DD hated pink and lots of other girls were outgrowing it by 9.

Alienchannell21 · 14/03/2021 19:23

I've a 9 year old and have recently bought presents for school friends, though I wouldn't spend more than £15. I've bought a combination of sparkly gel pens, a lockable diary, loom band kits, books, mindfulness colouring books, lip gloss sets, lush bath bombs etc. Could you make her up a nice box with a range of things given you sit really know what she likes?
