Posting for traffic really. Just that... if your workplace let you change/adapt your hours to suit school pick up etc then what hours do you do? I need to do 39hours to make it full time. My dh can do drop offs but not pick up as his hours aren't flexible.

Tricky if you need to work 39 hours per week. I work 29 and can vary as needed but tend to do three full days and a short one however was doing 4 x 6 hour days and 1 x 5 hour for a while. Also I’m paid for a lunch break so don’t need to factor that in which helps.

If I was ft I’d not have much flexibility at all.

itispersonal · 14/03/2021 12:54

I'd do 5 days of 7 to 2.30 (half hour lunch)
Or 7.30 until 3. I'm assuming school finishes at 3.30

I don't need currently to as I work 9-5, do drop off, pre covid ds went in to breakfast for 30 mins so I could get to work comfortably. Dh works 7-3 so does pick up. We used afterschool club pre covid but it was only ever for 30 mins or so usually. We needed it as occasionally dh would have calls or meetings running over.

Pre school the pay off of condensing days or the loss of income going part time did not seem worth it. But ds did not go till he was over 2 as I got voluntary redundancy after mat leave and took a year and a bit off.

We are balancing at the moment to avoid wrap around care to avoid covid.

What would your DH be doing in this situation if your hours weren’t flexible?

I don’t imagine for a second that his hours aren’t somewhat flexible, by the way...

To be fair it does sound like the DH is doing his fair share here in taking the drop offs as presumably he'll work later to make up the time?

Very refreshing given the usual state of DH's on here

YellowDaffidols · 14/03/2021 14:07

If your Mum would continue to do one day a week, you could work longer thag day, and give yourself breathing space the other says. You need to be at school BEFORE the bell. You cant leave work when the bell goes.
Most couples who both work FT either have a very accomadating grandparent, or pay for some childcare.

Presumably he'd pay for childcare like all the other working parents do.

But at the moment he does every single drop-off so I don't think it's fair to slate him. Lots of people work jobs which don't have flexible hours - it's really not that hard to believe, surely?

sillysausages123 · 14/03/2021 14:42

@SixyTixts he works in an education setting....not a teacher but works 9-4:45 so no he is not flexible. He is a fantastic hubby and does more than his fair share. But thank you for trying to piss all over him when it wasn't necessary Hmm

I think you might burn out. Could your mum take them twice a week? Even for an hour.

fishonabicycle · 14/03/2021 14:48

Can't you just use an after school childminder a couple of days? We had to as I had a long commute.

Notavegan · 14/03/2021 14:53

39 hours a week is an awful lot. Good luck though, I start at 7 the days dh can do the drop off. Pre covid I had a swap with another family one day.

MumofSpud · 14/03/2021 15:31

I had a job that was 06:45-2:45 5 days a week
Technically I could have picked up every day but with the school run traffic it would have been impossible!!

EatTheMince · 14/03/2021 15:40

I do 8.30 to 2.30 and use a breakfast club which is £2.50 a day, after school club is about £8 per day so it makes sense to start earlier.

I only do 30 hours though I'm not sure how you would fit in 39 hours.

sillysausages123 · 14/03/2021 15:50

I'm just going to do 7.00-2.50 that should be fine. School finishes at 3.00 so I'll be there in time. It takes 5-7 mins to get there, 10 at a push.

I used to do 40+ hours so no fear of burn out. My dh is great, we take turns with dinners and I get a Saturday lie in and he gets Sunday. I do also have a lovely lady that does my ironing on a Sunday evening.

I do 7.30 - 2.30 with no lunch break.

ChipsCheeseAndBeans · 14/03/2021 16:02

Sorry that should be 7 - 2.30
