Speak to the health visitor regarding my 10.5mo ?

I want to preface this by saying he's been cutting four teeth for over a week now. He's also still very interested in both breastfeeding and food. He appears well hydrated (normal soft spot, wet mouth, springy skin) and is currently playing merrily as I type.

With all that said over the last few weeks he has stuggled with choking/gagging at random points and or with/after food. He can be playing or eating or just finished eating and he will wretch like when they shove their hands in too far.. Only he isnt.

Initially that's all it was and it was fairly infrequent however as time has gone on its happening numerous times a day and in the last two or three days he has actually been sick. Large quantities of whatever hes most recently eaten. Be it breast milk or food.

Today after every bit of food or milk he has been wretching and actually significantly sick. Each time requiring full change of clothes all the way down.

It seems a bit late in the day for reflux to start as we has none of this before but I wonder as he has started making "growling" sounds (think death metal singer voice) but I just cant see it being a bug that's lasted this long. Also his bowel movements are normal??

Ring HV on Monday right??

Just need affirmation that I'm not neglecting anything that should be managed with immediacy.

Thanks in advance!

Do health visitors deal with issues like this? I would've though GP would be a better option.

Ahh ok, I was a little hesitant to bother the GP unless the hv determined it was needed.

Thank you though.

They might op, my dc are older now but I seem to remember the health visitors mainly dealt with developmental issues, feeding problems etc. It might all have changed now though!

Dazedandconfused2021 · 13/03/2021 18:23

You need to ring your GP for this.

Dazedandconfused2021 · 13/03/2021 18:24

I've just re-read your post and I'd ring the out of hours to be honest, I wouldn't want to leave it until Monday.

GreenSlide · 13/03/2021 18:25

I'd probably ring out of hours. They'll soon tell you if it's something that can wait until Monday so don't worry about wasting their time, they won't let you.

He might have something stuck. If he's normally eating fine, I'd go to OOH.

Wilkolampshade · 13/03/2021 19:13

Agree, GP..... Though tbh, choking/retching might have even me ringing OOH and I'm the queen of benign neglect....
