Bollywood movies contribute greatly to harassment

Especially the ones from the 80s and 90s.

The vast majority of these movies, which I and most Asian children grew up watching depicted the notion that if a male harasses a female for long enough then she will eventually fall for his 'charms'.

Re-watching these as an adult is actually very disturbing.

Like James Bond.

Hello @RosemarysCat, I was referring to hindi movies made in India which are widely watched by the South Asian community internationally.

But good point regarding James Bond.

I’m not very familiar with Bollywood films but I can easily believe it. It’s like 10 Things I Hate About You and the Notebook - harass a woman into submission and she’ll eventually love you.

A lot of those movies were musicals and the song lyrics and videos were beyond shocking.

There was a blockbuster movie for example with an ensemble cast and there was a song which basically showcased a man asking for a kiss and the woman saying no, there was a crowd of 200 men or so surrounding her encouraging her to kiss him.

The crowd ripped bits of her clothes off, hosed her down and covered her in foam.
Towards the end of the song the crowd surrounded her and the leading guy whilst he forcefully kisses her.

The actress later said that during the filming she was groped by the extras repeatedly during the filming of that song.

It is a terrible message.

Haven't seen many Bollywood films, but what I have seen (from 10-15 years ago was pretty sexist stuff).

Obviously these films can't be un-made, but OP, do you know if things are getting any better?
