What to do about this work situation?

I've been working in a new job for 2 months now. The manager isn't the warmest of people, but not rude either.

Initially we were given a month's rota in advance which was very handy.

Atm I know she's had a lot on, so last week I was only given my rota with 2 days' notice and for that week only.

I texted her 2 days ago asking for next week's rota, as I'm trying to book a blood test, but had no reply since.

I had the Covid vaccine yesterday. Today I have been really ill, flu symptoms and nausea, haven't left my bed or eaten, aching all over.
I was meant to be on a 13 hour shift today but I knew I wouldn't be able to make it. Messaged to let her know 2.5 hours before my shift and had no reply.
I phoned the workplace but was told she wasn't there yet.
Anyway I've still had no reply. There are plenty of agency and bank staff who want hours so cover has never been an issue, she's always able to get somebody.

I know it probably looks bad being off sick after only 2 months.

I'm currently on a 12-week 'trial', not sure if I've been fired?
No idea what I'm working Monday onwards and no reply about me being off ill either.

The office is closed now for the weekend. I seemed to be doing well in the job, nobody has said otherwise. Just not sure.

I used to work with 3 other colleagues but they got moved to another department. I don't think they thought too highly of her as apparently she tried to make one of them come in even though he had a positive Covid test, and she came in herself whilst waiting for her Covid result. They talked about her negatively quite a lot which did make me a bit apprehensive but wanted to give her the benefit of the doubt.

This isn’t about your boss or whether she is or isn’t warm, a nice person or a good manager.

The fact is you’re unwell, and having vaccine side effects and it’s entirely reasonable to have a day off, rest and recover. I know several people who have felt that way and have been much better 24hrs on. Don’t feel guilty, rest and get better!

Thanks, I'm hoping to feel better tomorrow!
I just don't understand why she's ignored my last few texts as she didn't do this before.
During this trial I can be fired without notice apparently.

You'll just have to wait and see what happens on Monday. No-one here can tell you what's going to happen. Am sure it will be fine -

LawrenceChaney · 12/03/2021 18:06

Thanks, I don't even know if I'm supposed to be in Monday or not, don't want to send a 3rd message and get no reply but might have to.

It might be that she was absent from work herself. Try not to worry about it; there’s not much that you can do till Monday. Just wait till then and go in.

LawrenceChaney · 12/03/2021 18:06

Yeah, it could be. I will try to not worry !

I was going to say the same, maybe she's off work herself. Do you have any other contact to follow this up, to make sure they knew you informed them of your absence? Have you followed the right procedure in contacting her directly? I'm sure that even if they were ending your employment, they would have to let you know and not just ignore you. Hope you're feeling better soon and I'm sure it will all be ok.

LawrenceChaney · 12/03/2021 18:12

Thanks, yeah I was told to contact her directly, maybe she has been off too, I will give it until Monday and then see.

She sounds like a rubbish manager frankly.
