AIBU or is my baby?

DS refusing to nap today and barely slept last night too. Far too much fun being awake it seems, any attempt at lying down or leaving to play on mat by himself goes down like a lead balloon cue lots of crying.

I, whilst enjoying lots of baby cuddles, would like to maybe eat today or treat myself to a shower and undisturbed use of the bog.

Who's being unreasonable?

YANBU - because children are put on this earth to test your sanity.

YABU - who needs to use the toilet anyway

🥴

YABU. You don’t need food or any kind of cleanliness or bladder relief? Who do you think you are? The Sultan of Brunei? La di da.

ComDummings · 12/03/2021 15:26

Babies are always unreasonable. Fact.

OohImBlindedByTheLights · 12/03/2021 15:28

You should have thought about this before you got pregnant - you sound unhinged to even consider your own needs!!!

😒😒

Aquamarine1029 · 12/03/2021 15:28

A baby has 2 missions in life. To be adorable and equally as unreasonable. They are very, very good at it.

SanityLossComplete · 12/03/2021 15:28

Right?! It's all me, me, me with them 🙄

Selfish, cute little dictators!

ChancesWhatChances · 12/03/2021 15:31

Ahh I still remember the one handed toilet use. Then I discovered a baby swing and my bathroom use changed til he outgrew it again Grin I’ve not figured out how to use it without a 3 year old in tow though but at least I have both my hands!

Xiaoxiong · 12/03/2021 15:31

This is why we finally caved in to the Circle of Neglect aka. one of those saucer things with buttons to bang and flippy things to spin round and a seat in the middle. It just fit in between the toilet and the bathtub so I could take a shower without taking my eye off the baby. I would have looked like neanderthal woman without that piece of hideous plastic kit when the DCs were babies.

I still remember all the songs from that thing too and it was called a Leapfrog Learn 'n Groove! I doubt any learning was had but at least I could have a wee in peace!

Aimee1987 · 12/03/2021 15:32

Definitely you being unreasonable here.

You dont say how old he is but I used to put DS in the bouncer in the bathroom while I showered.equally popped it on the floor in the kitchen to get food.
Fingers crossed he goes for a nap at some point soon

OohImBlindedByTheLights · 12/03/2021 15:34

Didn't Michael McIntyre do a sketch on giving a child neurofen AND calpol? Puts kids to sleep?

Clearly I'm never ever going to suggest that but just saying lol!!!

bridgetreilly · 12/03/2021 15:35

It's okay for him to cry for a little bit. You have to be able to wee and eat and occasionally even sleep.

SanityLossComplete · 12/03/2021 15:38

Circle of neglect, love that Grin

He has a play mat which he usually loves but nope, not today. Today only glued to Mummy will do!

And now he's sleeping angelically ON me of course, but heaven forbid I make any sudden or not so sudden movements and disturb him.

And of course good as gold when DH gets home just to make me look extra mad Wink

I remember having a bit of a tummy bug in the very early newborn days and giving him his bottles on the toilet and thinking oh how things have changed 🤣

We had a circle of neglect! Though we called it the Evil Genius Chair.

Fuckitaaaallllll · 12/03/2021 15:57

Get the jumparoo, get the swing. Get everything you can safely leave a baby in for half an hour 5 minutes and ignore the cries for a moment, they're not hurt, just confused that you appear to be doing something for yourself. Enjoy your hot tea and wee. Mine quite helpfully enjoyed CBeebies from a young age so a couple of episodes of Duggee tended to buy me some time.

Cam2020 · 12/03/2021 16:02

Circle of neglect - best invention ever!

soughsigh · 12/03/2021 16:09

YABU. How dare you think of your own basic needs when baby's every whim needs attenting to?

I also had a Velcro baby. I just let him cry while I peed or quickly made a sandwich, there's no other way.

Heavymetaldetector · 12/03/2021 16:09

Just ordering a circle of neglect...

LittleOwl153 · 12/03/2021 16:14

Have you tried a sling or baby carrier? My youngest spent his first few months in a wrap which at least gave me 2 hands for other jobs...

Twickerhun · 12/03/2021 16:14

My little lovelies wouldn’t just sit in the bouncy chair as mumsnet used to advise me to try. Babies are unreasonable. Full stop.

SanityLossComplete · 12/03/2021 16:19

It's like as soon as he's clocked on that you've distracted him he's furious!

WombatWomb · 12/03/2021 16:38

YANBU. Babies are unreasonable as fuck, only slightly more so than cats.

That's why babies and cats are cute.

Lol there is another poster on her concerned about her friend giving her baby neurofen and calpol every 4 hours daily for months on end. Maybe they had seen the MM sketch Shock
Potterythrowdown · 12/03/2021 16:58

We have a circle of neglect (jumperoo) and the rectangle of neglect (play pen). Sadly my 3yo is too big for both and is ridiculously unreasonable.
