Pregnancy Hormone comments. How would you respond?

So DP and I were having a laugh about some of this things I've said over the past few months since being pregnant. I'm not usually very dramatic but have made some amusing statements in moments of weakness

E.g.
After being kept awake for hours during a storm due to noises outside DP kindly asked at 4am if there was anything he could do to help. To which I replied
"Either stop the wind, or fix that bloody gate"

Or while feeling particularly exhausted and contemplating what to do for dinner.
"I just can't bring myself to chew anything..."

We agreed that my symptoms on the whole have been pretty manageable. To which DP bravely said:

"yeah, your physical symptoms have been fine, though it's a bit like when you're on your period, but all the time..."

I knew what he meant because I'm fine most of the time but pregnancy hormones have hit me hard on occasion so can be a little less tolerant 😅.
I just laughed and said he was very brave... Or very stupid 😂

The examples you give sound completely normal remarks.

Maybe warn him that post natally you might notch it up by a fair distance. And as for the menopause, well, be warned. Grin

You must be very very mild mannered people because those examples aren’t even slightly rude/hormonal. They are literally nothing.

ConstantlySeekingHappiness · 12/03/2021 14:26

I don’t really understand what pregnancy hormones have to do with either of those statements?

Is your DP suggesting you’ve been acting like some sort of raging lunatic whilst pregnant... based on those comments... Confused

Wishitsnows · 12/03/2021 14:31

Those comments don't sound hormonal. Is your Dh suggesting you are all the time when in fact you're not?

SmidgenofaPigeon · 12/03/2021 14:32

Christ I am prone to dramatic statements (in my defence it makes DH laugh and I am a failed actress) but they’ll be things like pretending to die of a coughing fit when he sprays deodorant or pretending to faint when he cooks salmon, or speaking like I’m auditioning for the part of tragic heroine in the RSC.

Your statements don’t sound dramatic in the least Confused

Both of your expectations seem pretty tame... none of that is particularly unreasonable, rude or ott.

When I was pregnant with dc2 DH wasn't allowed to eat it drink around me, even his breathing gave me murderous rage- and I'm talking I had physically leave the room so o couldn't hear him. At work the guys I spent a lot of time with at work learned quickly to either leave the room or have snacks at hand after a few... er.... outbursts 😬

Everstorm · 12/03/2021 16:33

Haha. I meant more that he was very brave to openly comment about my hormones and ability to handle them 😂... Amazed I didn't throw my drink at him tbh

But I agree, I think he has it pretty easy in general if he thinks my responses are dramatic 😂😂

Totally agree about hearing people eat... Close to banning popcorn and crisps in this house 🤯

Agreed with others, your comments sound quite rational and normal. I burst into tears when DH bought the wrong pizza when I was about 36 weeks pregnant so 🤷🏻‍♀️.

Oh god that's reminded of the time we got a takeaway because I was ravenously hungry and super pregnant and they forgot my chips... I cried, the takeaway said they'd send some but it would be 45 minutes and I cried again so DH ran out and got me chips somewhere else for fear id loose my shit 😂 pregnancy hangry is a whole other level
