To think that women should be allowed to carry CS gas?

I know it's classed as a firearm in the UK and we aren't allowed to carry it but isn't it time the law changed to allow women to carry it in order to protect us?

How many more women have to be attacked before we are given the right to protect ourselves?

What about men and teenagers too. They also get attacked.

Bluebird2021 · 11/03/2021 18:56

no. i don't

too easy to make a mistake or use in haste.

Bluebird2021 · 11/03/2021 18:57

also, how will you guarantee it won't get into the wrong hands?

how will you police its use?

DifficultPifcultLemonDifficult · 11/03/2021 18:58

I bought my daughters stabby cat keyrings and rape alarms. I feel CS gas is too far though.

Fucking shocking that women have to go to these lengths.

dewisant2020 · 11/03/2021 19:00

Ooo for god sake don't be so silly, I think this is getting out off hand a bit!
Yes woman get attacked all the time, but so do men, not all men are monsters. I know some woman who are worse than any man you'll ever meet.
Unfortunately in life there are horrible people from all walks of life

Angel2702 · 11/03/2021 19:01

What’s to stop it being used against them first though?

Champagneandmonstermunch · 11/03/2021 19:01

I don't think that would be a good idea, but there is no law against carrying hair spray/deodorant, which sprayed into the eyes would have a similar short term effect. The trouble is that most attacks come either from someone known to the victim, or too quickly for anyone to defend themselves.

PicsInRed · 11/03/2021 19:02

Perhaps women should be allowed to posses it and men shouldn't.

occa · 11/03/2021 19:03

Hot sauce diluted a bit with alcohol and put in a travel aerosol sprayer works just as well.

Apparently.

Finfintytint · 11/03/2021 19:03

It doesn’t work on everyone. You have to be a good aim in frightening and stressful circumstances. It enrages some people. Wind direction determines who it incapacitated.
And it fucks up my contact lenses.

I know it doesn't work on everyone but if it gives you enough time to disarm an attacker and run.

Maybe self defence for women should be more widely offered, perhaps girls in schools should be taught. Not enough is done to protect women from being attacked.

I'm on the fence about it. My knee-jerk reaction after recent events is to say yes, we should absolutely be allowed to have the means to defend ourselves and then maybe men like this would think twice. But I think on balance it's probably a bad idea though - wouldn't it be more likely to make things more dangerous for women, it could just as easily be used against them? I don't know if I'd feel safer carrying it or not, it's not like I'd be going round with it in my hand ready to use. I'd also be worried my son could get hold of it and hurt himself. Then there's fears over retaliation, which of course is part of the problem with male violence and the fear of it. Sad

Kfdbhydcjrsx · 11/03/2021 19:11

Not enough is done to change men's belief they are entitled to abuse, rape, beat, and kill women.

I'd rather we focused on that.

Crankley · 11/03/2021 19:11

Perhaps women should be allowed to posses it and men shouldn't.

How exactly are you going to police that? The sort of men who would use it don't give a fuck if they 'should' be allowed or not.

Totally unrealistic.

Finfintytint · 11/03/2021 19:12

I think the “ giving you enough time” is not relevant to life threatening situations. Most will not have the speed and will be paralysed with fear.

nocoolnamesleft · 11/03/2021 19:14

I don't think it's a good idea, as if it becomes available it'll get used on women. Primarily by men.

ginandbearit · 11/03/2021 19:23

Im a man and have a manbag in which I carry a small deoderant spray (Dove!) , easy to slip out if a situation is building up ..I used it once in a tube when I was attacked and it bought me time ...BUT ..I had other skills to hand and quickly back up ...and I was still terrified and could have got into.a lot of trouble if my attacker recovered quickly . Your best bet is running shoes and if you can a spray or rape alarm, but really just run like fuck if you can .

Troublewaters2021 · 11/03/2021 19:41

Didn’t a man also make the news recently after being killed on his way to the shops ?

Bluebird2021 · 11/03/2021 19:44

@Samedaysameshit

Drain cleaner is legal. Far worse than CS gas
if you're thinking of one shot drain cleaner...you can't get that anymore. was used in an acid attack

its tamer stuff available these days

Bluebird2021 · 11/03/2021 19:45

to clarify, the new style drain cleaner has been re modified

NailsNeedDoing · 11/03/2021 19:47

Only if everyone can carry it. Men and boys get attacked too, it’s no more acceptable because they share a sex with people who commit violent attacks.

punkstrumpet · 11/03/2021 19:51

Running and screaming your head off is right, fighting tooth and claw but above all situational awareness, and yes, you do need to modify behaviours and assess the risks (sadly).

All of this talk of deodorant and drain cleaner and keys between your knuckles is dangerous tosh.

Travellor · 11/03/2021 19:52

@occa

Try looking up S5 Firearms Act 1968 (Prohibited Weapons) and the penalties on conviction.
AlCalavicci · 11/03/2021 19:55

I have witnessed far to many women attacking each other or men to even nearly consider this .
I have worked in pubs and clubs and while men on the whole tend to swing a few punches at another man it is often one on one while women go around in groups and attack in gangs .
By no means am I saying this is always the case but if them woman could carry CS gas there would be a lot of misuse imo

Both parties need to be held to much firmer accounts of any form of attack.

We would also have a minefield when it comes to whom identifies as a woman , thats not a can of worms I would want to open !
