Colleague coming to work with Covid symptoms

Hi all

I work in a tiny office, and we are a team of 3 people - my boss, his assistant and me. I come into tje office almost every day, same as my bosses assistant (the boss himself comes in a couple of times a week, and works from home the rest of the time). On Tuesday the assistant called me to say that he developed caugh and he will work from home - he does however need to come in to pick up his laptop. I asked him to give me a notice so i can go out, he said ok. In a couple of hours he turns in without letting me know, and stays in the office for another 2 hours, then leaves. On Wednesday the boss himself came in and said that his assistant will be working from home for the rest of the week, as he also developed fever. I messaged him last night asking if he got tested for Covid - he said no.
This morning he comes to the office saying he cant work from home because he needs a printer! I immediately messaged my boss, saying that what this guy is doing is against the Government guidance, and i am not comfortable with this. So the boss spoke to him and asked him to leave, but the guy is still here 3 hours later!!! What do i do - complain again? To who? My boss clearly doesn't care, but it makes my blood boil that no one seems to care about me in this situation. This idiot doesn't even wear a mask!

AIBU here?

I'd immediately say I will be working from home due to assistant being in with covid symptoms without a test which is against the law and also a health and safety risk.

MadeForThis · 11/03/2021 15:26

Leaving the risk of actually catching it aside,

If he tests positive you will be a close contact and have to isolate. If he had stayed out of the office this wouldn't have happened.

Your boss will have two staff off work instead of one. The office should also be deep cleaned.

@MadeForThis i actually suspevt that my colleague has absolutely no intention to get tested! I asked him last night if he got tested - he said no. And then my boss told me today "George got tested and is waiting for the result". Well, clearly one of them is lying! Also they are friends, and I am an outsider, so i suspect they are both in this together - not giving a fuck about covid, or government guidance, or me.

I think you can report them to the council? But they'll probably know its you.

5foot5 · 11/03/2021 17:29

Tell them you intend to self isolate at home until you see the evidence of his negative test result. If he tests positive then you definitely need to self isolate as you have been in close proximity

Normandy144 · 11/03/2021 18:52

I don't see why you can't just say you're working from home until he produces evidence of a negative test? I thought we were all supposed to be working from home at the moment anyway if we can?

Skysblue · 11/03/2021 20:10

It’s a breach of health and safety law at least.

I’d make a health and safety report and walk out tbh.

Skysblue · 11/03/2021 20:11

In fact as you have had direct contact with someone with NBC ovid symptoms, surely you can say your colleague’s breach of the covid regulations as well as health and safety law now requires you to self isolate and that you will be wfh.

If your boss wont do anything phone the police yourself.

peak2021 · 11/03/2021 21:04

I think the police as well, especially if you think it's not just coming into work where he is not self-isolating. Possibly contact the school his children go to as well if he has any, though they won't tell you if the children are in school of course.

The printer is a pathetic excuse or else he is incapable of his job. Could have been emailed to you, you print out, and send on, as an example.
