HAIR saga

Paraphrasing, I have a section 75 chargeback claim with my bank after the hair appointment from hell.

In December the stylist bleached my hair but left it on for too long. My hair was left damaged to where it was breaking off in clumps from the root as they were washing it. They advised a more drastic hair cut than planned and a treatment. Months later, my hair is chemically burnt in areas and still looks like frazzled strawSad The cut isn’t what I wanted (think v long to bob), my argument is that they didn’t carry it out with reasonable care and ruined my hair.

Aibu to include the cost of tape hair extensions in my claim? They’re expensive - salons in my city charge £80 per hour to install them (2.5 hours is the common time) and the hair itself costs £400. I feel like this is the only option to restore my hair somewhat back to normal but do you think it’s OTT?

If your hair is that damaged then I wouldn't have extensions put in as they may look good but they do more damage and it becomes a cycle where to cover the damage you cause more which requires you to keep having extensions.

The best option to recover your hair is to let it grow out.

I've chemically burned my own hair by over bleaching it. Went from having it half way down my back to a cheek length Bob because there was no alternative, the hair was just snapping off and while it was gutting, the act of leaving it alone, no more bleach or dye and keeping it regularly trimmed meant that the hair grew back in great condition.

@HalfShrunkMoreToGo ah I probably needed to hear that, thanks for being honest! I guess my “logic” was that I have a few inches of virgin hair so the extensions wouldn’t be applied directly to the damaged bits.

How long did it take you to grow your hair out? I’m glad you were able to recover it

My understanding is that if you're going to have extensions then tape ones are one of the safest choices but there's a lot of reliance on good application by the hairdresser as if they're put in too close to the scalp or too far away, or not perfectly straight or too close together then they can pull on the hair causing it to break off.

It took a year realistically for my hair to grow enough that I liked it and 2 years to get it long again. It's not a quick fix but it's a balance between having a quick fix now but possibly having to go the long route later or just deciding to let it grow now.

I did use things like directions and manic panic wash in/wash out dyes just to add hints of colour while it was growing and it was really only 3-6 months before it was long enough that I was able to start messing about with different styles and tying it up or curling it to give a different look.

I would avoid extensions. I had them and they ruined by hair. It took years for the damage to grow out. The best thing you can do is spend money on quality products to look after your natural hair. I swear by Moroccan Oil for my bleached hair. It's quite pricey by the time you buy the shampoo/conditioner and oil (the light one is a must!) but it's so worth it.
