Junk food obsessed PTA?

GirlofInkandStars · 10/03/2021 21:55

My DCs school PTA is obsessed with junk food fundraisers. I know things are limited in lock down but it has always been like this.

Jars of sweets, cones of sweets, massive boxes of donuts at the end of term. And now contributions for an Easter egg for each child.

I struggle with my DDs teeth. Other DCs in her class clearly have issues with weight. I know others who have specific dietary requirements.

The school is supposed to be a healthy eating school and polices lunchboxes... but apparently this doesn’t apply to the PTA?

AIBU to think this is not on it am I just a grumpy old party pooper?

You sound tiresome.

And please don't pretend your kids dental decay is from a weekly pta event.

Yuko the PTA for my local primary (which I was a part of) always tried very hard to make sure there was food for all children - those who were allergic, intolerant or other dietary needs.
When your child starts school talk to someone from the PTA (you don't have to join...) about your daughter's allergies and find out what the PTA tends to do when they have food sales.
Believe me she will not be the only child in the school with allergies so they probably already have a system in place.

@RaspberryCoulis I could have written your post as my experiences are just the same.

It's always the same people who want to help and always the same people who constantly nitpick and criticise every single time. Do they want to help? Nope.

Out of the 10 of us on the PTA, 8 of us worked full time and it was a fucking nightmare sometimes but you'll always get people who will never help because, they just don't want to. And actually, I have no problem with that as long as they don't constantly moan about every little bloody thing.

Most of our PTA worked full time too. Or compressed hours. A couple of us worked part time. Nobody fitted the bored stay at home mum stereotype. All of us had kids, and childcare issues and all the other "excuses" people would come up with about why they couldn't possibly get involved.

At least be honest about why you're not getting involved - you don't want to or aren't interested.

Yep.
