On Saturday morning my neighbour 2 doors down knocked to tell me they had seen something very suspicious the night before. He saw 2 men trying to look through my living room windows (curtains were closed so they couldn't see anything) also it looked like they were taking pictures?! This was at 12.40am. Then they kept driving past filming the house and possibly other houses. They reported the information to the police who logged it. Then that night my neighbour was about to go out somewhere in his car and he noticed 3 cars parked up along different parts of the road with people sitting inside. He said he could tell they were empty due to something about the lights? Also a motorbike. Seemed like they were watching my house/lots of houses and trying to work out who is home at what time or what time people are going to bed. He then saw 1 man get out and walk up to my front doors. This was at 10pm so me and my husband were up watching TV. Maybe he was checking out what front door etc we had?? Sunday night my neighbour knocks again saying they have been checking their ring doorbell footage and noticed a few random people at different times of day, pretending they are stroking a cat while checking out where any security cameras are. My first thought was that maybe on the Friday night/Saturday morning when they were at my front window, was that they may have thought the house was empty as we have a drive but no car. Now I am terrified, I haven't been able to sleep more than about 3 hours a night since I have found this out. We had a ring door bell put in yesterday and alarms on my doors. The front windows that open are tiny, but they could find a way in I'm sure! I called the police myself and they have logged everything and I saw police driving up and down a few times. I feel sick all the time and feel so unsafe in my own home. My neighbour seems to think they are a gang and professional! My dad thinks my neighbour has watched too many films but I'm not so sure.

A lot of burglars do stake a house out in quite careful detail before returning to attempt a burglary as we learnt the hard way.... Not sure why everyone’s immediately so suspicious and assuming your neighbour must be batshit or have weird ulterior motives in this!

Because it's really ott for simple burglar stake out with so many cars a motorbike this and that. Coming up to house number of times etc. There may have really be some suspicious activity, but this is just way too much

I don't have a dog no. I live with my DH and young boys so not on my own. It does sound very ott when I think about it. With the amount of cars and a bike. Neighbour reckons they are a big gang, who are professionals and planning something 'big' Not pissed the neighbour off or anything like that. I just want to be able to sleep and feel safe in my home. I'm up most of the night switching on and off lights etc.

As someone who’s been burgled twice, I would take this seriously and throw money at cameras, alarms, sensors etc. I slept with a baseball bat next to my bed for a few months until I eventually moved out. I can totally relate to how upsetting the thought of being burgled is!

Get a motion light.
We have a ring doorbell but they still broke into our car. And the doorbell was useless in the dark.

We were burgled years ago we now have a burgler alarm with sensors on the doors and Windows. Can't remember the price but was about £200 and partner installed it. We use it every night and when the house is empty.

You could use timer switches on your lamps to change them automatically if that would not spook you even more...

am wondering if you have some dodgy neighbours on your road? gangsters, drug dealers, that kind of dodgy? Somebody could be arranging a 'hit', and scoping out the neighbourhood first.

I know it sounds far-fetched, but it happens IRL.

Thank you all for replying. Someone replied to my post on the next door group saying that this is common practice recently for car theft in my local area. Especially for BMW's . I don't have a car but my neighbour (not the same on who spoke to me about this) 2 doors away the other side has one of those cars. Also there are quite a few decent cars close to my house. It still doesn't make sense why they were at my windows taking photos (nothing would have been visible from inside as curtains closed). Someone did say to me that car thieves get close to properties to try and unlock keyless cars. So instead of taking pictures like my neighbour thought, it could have been a device they use to unlock cars and were trying to pick something up from my house? Not sure but it does sound much more realistic for this to be a car theft gang. All this to break into my house for potentially not much (they wouldn't get much at all!) Seems crazy.

If it’s any help, I bought blink cameras from Amazon. They are battery operated and can be schedules to come on whenever you like. It was about £100 for 2 of them. Connect through WiFi and footage is saved on the app. Gives me huge piece of mind.
