Advice please! I’ve been out of education for past 4/5 years since I had my kids. I taught IT and some business early on in my career. My degree is in business studies but I haven’t really taught business for at last 7 years.

I’m feeling anxious that I might not be good enough to even apply. Can someone give me advice such as the types of Units covered and qualifications in colleges. It’s not a school like I’ve worked in before but it’s a 16+ college.

Teachers are leaving the profession in droves. As such, you needn't worry too much. Just be aware that, to start with, you may start on a lower pay point than before since portability has gone out of the window.

Try looking at some specifications to see current units? Look at (recent) resources on TES. Search #edutwitter to see if UKIP can find business teachers?

@TheJackieWeaver thank you!

I teach in a college and have taught business in the past. Some of the units I have delivered in the last few years includes finance, marketing, customer service, visual merchandising and event management. It’s worth having a look at the BTEC specifications at both level 2 and level 3 as they have changed in recent years and both have significant elements of external assessment now.

@Skigal86 thank you! I’ve not worked in a college only in secondary schools. How different do you think it will be?

I’ve done both and it’s very different, the expectations of the students are very different, they need to be a lot more self motivated and on the whole my day to day job is easier in a college, I don’t have to deal with anything like as many behaviour issues (that said I worked in v rough schools) but a lot more safeguarding issues. I have a lot more autonomy in college than I ever did in school but I also pick up a lot more things that would be someone else’s responsibility in a school (e.g. this week I’ve had to sort exam entries and dates)

My standard hours are longer but I work less outside my working hours than I did in school, and I have a little less holiday but a little more flexibility about when I take it, when I moved to the college I got quite a big pay jump (this would be fairly unusual now) but no pay progression.

Go for it. I think there is a shortage of business teachers. Business seems to have become more popular since IT was removed. Btec business seems to be the main qualification. You can find the spec online.
