To ask about options other than SSRIs

I take citalopram for anxiety. I have reduced my does to 20mg from 30mg due to gastric issues. Mainly indigestion and some relfux and nausea, but lately I've had bloating and a bit of throat discomfort.
I take 60mg of lansoprazol which is a high does for these side effects.

I feel I probably still need a medication for my anxiety but I can't manage these side effects anymore. But I think lots of other SSRIs can have this effect. So I just wanted to hear of other experiences of non SSRIs for anxiety. I'm wondering if some of the older meds are also side effect laced but in worse ways!

I feel my GP is keen to manage they side effects as the citalopram pretty much works. But a 20mg its not great but gives me the stomach side effects.

Just to make it clear I will talk to my GP before doing anything and I'm not looking for medical advice just for people to share experiences. Thanks

I took citalopram and it made my anxiety worse. I take mirtazapine 15mg (was on 30mg) and have taken quetiapine (upto 150mg) as well to help when my anxiety is very severe. This combination gave me my life back.

Well this is also the thing Rosie! I started taking them in 2013 when I was def depressed. I resisted them for ages but I'd finished my masters was struggling to get a job in my field and just doubting myself.

I've been on them since and have still had dips but not like before I took them. I didn't really have anxiety like I do now or had on a lower dose though. So I do wonder if the meds are now at a point of not helping or making things worse.

However I did lose a relative unexpectedly in their 50s in 2018 so I do think my anxiety is related to this. Basically I'm saying it's really hard to know.
