To dislike the word ‘nope’?

I really dislike the use of ‘Nope!’, especially as a one word answer. To me it feels more dismissive than a straightforward no. Anyone else?

Haha, you would hate me, I say it all the time! I say it joking with the kids mainly but wouldn't say it if I was at work or something

@Knitterbabe

Well, yes. If I ask ‘Did you watch X last night?’, and the reply is ‘Nope!’, I feel the respondent is implying something other than ‘No, was it interesting?’.
I think in that case they mean "No and I'm not interested in talking about it". It's used dismissively deliberately for that purpose. If you asked me if I watched that interview I would possibly say "nope" because it's hard to imagine how I could be less interested in it.

I only ever use it when I’m being ironic or sarcastic. I agree it has a dismissive tone.

Bad English, YANBU to not like it.

Not so disinterested that you won’t shoehorn it in your another thread on a totally unrelated topic... Wink

Well that’s the point of it so tell your feelings well done for spotting the obvious.

Sorry, just the first example that came into my head that would be easy to express concisely. You make a good point though.
