A bed for my daughter

She is 6 and has her own room, it’s not tiny but not massive either so I’m trying to find a bed that won’t take up the whole room.
I’ve been looking at bunk bed types that have a desk/ chair under.
I don’t want to waste money on a bed that only lasts a year or so, does anyone have any ideas or is a bunk bed a bad idea?

My DS had one of these until he was 14 and about 5’10 tall!

You can get children's beds that are 1m 70 long.

We had one and I hated it. It made the room look so small. We eventually got rid of it and had a carpenter build one that fitted over the boxing in for the top of the stairs. I wish we'd done that first instead of wasting money.

That’s what I’m worried about, it looking massive and also not sure if getting up and down a ladder will be an issue.
I know it’s not really an AIBU but I can’t decide and we can’t afford the wasted money (especially this year) so just wanted some honest opinions as whatever we buy will be from a website too so can’t see it until it’s too late 😂

dc has a mid sleeper, desk and wardrobe underneeath. Loves it. Currently teenager

You can get some absolute bargains on high sleeper beds with all the kit second hand (just sold ours on eBay and regretting buying new)

AintOverUntilTheCatLadySings · 08/03/2021 15:37

These are given away for free all the time on Facebook marketplace so try there first

I found that it was a real pain if they were ill. Up and down the bloody ladder all the time, and if they were really ill, they couldn’t use the ladder properly.

Also, l used to sometimes like cuddling mine to sleep. Then you crawl down the ladder and it would wake them up.

I hate ours.

Spanglybangles · 08/03/2021 15:53

I have never bothered with these mid/hi sleeper, bunk type of beds for either of my kids despite being tempted. Changing the bed linen must be a nightmare!!

jackstini · 08/03/2021 17:21

Agree the ladders are a pain both for getting to them and changing beds.
There are some mid height ones with 3 x 2 drawers under so good for storage
Or agree have someone build one then you could have a flip-end desk. High enough that part of the footboard flips up and over the top of the end of the bed and makes a desk with a stool space (would be your waist height-ish)

Thanks for the replies! The changing the beds I think has done it for me, I hate that job as it is. Think il look for a mid or one with storage drawers

We got the ikea kura mid sleeper. It can go either way low sleeper or mid sleeper. We got some boarding and put the poard over the slats and mattress on the floor. So child has the upper area to play and store toys and sleeps underneath. We added pink castle sides to top to make it safer. Lots of ideas likes this if you google ikea kura
