I was under the impression that escooters were illegal on public land. Nearly all of My DD's friends have them lots got them for christmas and some have bought them these last few months. My DD has asked for one and I have said no. I know a couple of people who have bought them for their teens so they don't have to keep ferrying them around. I have just walked the dog and on a 2 mile walk they are everywhere and i think everyone was under 16!! So have these suddenly become a legal mode of transport for teenagers??

Ah just googled and it's just for trials.

I'm not a fan.

They seem to be being trialled where I live. The riders have no road sense whatsoever, they swerve from pavement to cycle lane to road without even looking.

I can see they would be useful where there are proper (unshared) cycle lanes. But only if they stop going the wrong way along them because they can’t be arsed to cross to the other side of the road.

They drive me bats and they kids whizz around in groups, expecting everyone to move out of their way.
There was even one being ridden in our local Co-op. No one challenged .
Something bad is going to have to happen before any action is taken, I fear.

Really annoying and could be very dangerous (for example if an older person was hit by some one on one, they may never recover, would be pretty unpleasant for younger people to be hit by one)

Agree...cars should be banned. Extremely unpleasant for the thousands of people every year who get killed and seriously injured by them, including hundreds on pavements (not sure why age is relevant - 2 tonnes of metal hitting you must be unpleasant whatever your age)

Cars are insured, the drivers are licensed. Escooters are neither. That's the fairly crucial difference. Plus cars tend to keep to the road, whereas escooters are often careering about on pavements or pedestrianised areas where they pose a real danger.

So the big question is would you allow your 14 yr old to have one. They are illegal on public land and by allowing it in my opinion you are encouraging your child to break the law!!! Our 10 yr old neighbour got one for her birthday today!! She has literally been careering up and down the pavement all evening.
