Temporary accommodation in London?

Hi girls. I was wondering if anybody has been through something similar. I'm with Bromley Council and in july 2019 they moved me into temporary accommodation in maidstone. They said it would be 3-5years for a property in Bromley but I've now heard its 5+years. Anyway, my mums not been well for a little while now she had cancer last year and she had chemotherapy. She has bad copd and has mental health and depression. I've recently applied for carers allowance to help me with travel cost to help her out. My little boy is 4 and I'm having to go and care for her around 5 times a week which means he's missing nursery most days. Do you think that if I spoke to the housing they will find me another temp near to my mum? I've heard it's very difficult and they 'don't care' if your lonely and not around family and friends? Thanks

Would suggest you approach the Citizens Advice for advice and also approach the local MP's office for advice.

I’m so sorry, this sounds so tough. I would definitely speak to them and include your councillors, if you don’t get anywhere then go to your MP, they can do wonders. You shouldn’t need to be run ragged trying to care for your mum and your child

In some London boroughs you may get awarded extra priority if you're moving to provide care for someone in that Borough (saves them money longterm) but it could still be quite a wait. Is worth asking. Also as previously mentioned get some advice from CAB. Good Luck

Sorry you're in this situation. Not much use to you personally but you could try approaching it from the angle of getting a social services assessment for you mum if she needs carers. At least then you wouldn't be run ragged and could just spend time with her when you visit. The problem is they can't give you what they haven't got. Lots of temporary accommodation is dire, so if yours is ok it might be better for you to stay where you are until something permanent comes up.
