What will the world look like in 25 years?

I keep wondering what daily life will look like a few decades down the road. Will we have managed to stave off the absolute worst possibilities of climate change?

In terms of planning for retirement, are you hoping the state pension will still be a given? Could cryptocurrency (or anything else) cause any shift in how we save for retirement? What impact will the global recession have on pensions?

What will life be like, do you think?

In 1989, it was called global warming.
In 2021, it is called climate change.
In 2046, it will be renamed again.

China will be the world's richest nation because they shafted the rest of the world financially with their virus.

I guess we’re overdue a war
I fear this too, hopefully not there was enough countries destroyed by war in the past decade.

I really don't want the flying cars. We struggle to drive forwards and backwards, I don't think we should add up and down into the mix!

Mobility scooters are excellent, electric scooters are a pain.
Let's hope neither fly.

Looking back to 1996 and now...

New housing developments
More privatised higher education system
Hopefully much better technologically equipped schools
Continuing personalisation in health care

I have 3 toddlers and in 25 years I just hope I’ll still be around. I regret bringing them into this world; things are evidently never getting any better, only worse. I hope our DC and GDC don’t witness the worst of it Sad

It won't survive

I’m living for the day when we have personal jet packs that allow us to travel through the air.

I always thought the future would be full of people jet-packing around when I was a child.

AuntieMarys · 08/03/2021 07:26

I'll be 86. Hopefully dead

thelightishere · 08/03/2021 09:48

Don't think it will be any worse, but of course it will be different. I think cryptocurrency will become a lot more widespread in answer to OP. Hopefully some stricter rules on social media. I have a child so am not thinking as doomy as some PPs and I will never regret having a child - I never blame my parents for existing and believe I have found my way in the world; I don't think it's healthy to regret bringing life into the world.

@LunaHeather

lljkk 1996 feels like a different planet.

The past isn't just another country!

For some of us 1996 feels like yesterday!! I recall being shocked on our Golden Wedding when my late OH commented that we had married only 22 years after the end of WW2!

Do stop beating yourself up. I recall having conversations in the mid '60s with friends when we almost all decided that we would never bring children into such an awful world, the threat of nuclear war was very real.
