Neighbours and bins - putting one on my lawn

FortunesFave · 07/03/2021 20:14

Just moved house...well three weeks ago. Next door house is used as an Air B and B. Owners live miles away and it's managed by an agency. The cleaners come regularly and always put their bins on the side closet to our lawn....well one of them is actually ON our lawn. So two on their lawn and a third on ours...all in a row.

They do this I think because if they put them on the other side, they are more visible to passers by and look ugly.

Both houses have a big front lawn and there's a line of trees separating the lawns...it's quite clear whose lawn is whose.

The other side of their lawn is on a corner and visible from a street which is a popular one and I think they don't put the bins there because it's very visible to passers by and looks ugly.

AIBU to be annoyed by one of their three bins on our front lawn?

Or shall I ask the cleaner nicely not to put it there? What shall I say? Or move it myself?

I’d start moving it and mention it to the cleaner when I saw her. It’s very cheeky for them to use your front lawn to store their grubby bins.

BlackBucketOfCheese · 07/03/2021 20:22

Put a note on the bin.

FortunesFave · 07/03/2021 20:22

Thank you! Dh has just gone down (its very early in the morning here in Oz) to put ours out before the bin men come and I said "Put the neighbour's bin back on their side while you're there."

And he said "No its petty...I will do it when there are no guests there tomorrow"

Because there are guest in currently...I said who cares! The guests don't care!

Also, the bins stay out all week because the cleaners leave them there until they come in a couple of days...it seems the house is only usually rented on weekends....we're by the beach.

@BlackBucketOfCheese

Put a note on the bin.
Shall I? What to write? "Please don't leave bin on lawn of number 3, it will damage grass"

Or something else?

I'd mention it to the cleaner and on this occasion move them back myself.

It's hard to catch the cleaner...I'm not always here when she comes. I think move it and a note is best. Though it's possibly not always the same cleaner so it might keep happening.

'Please leave your bins on your own property. Thank you.'

LunaHeather · 07/03/2021 20:27

Leave a note. Just be blunt "stop putting the bins on our lawn. No 3."

Sorted.

Mooselaurels · 07/03/2021 20:30

Write them a poem:

"Roses are red,
Violets are blue,
Your bin is on my land,
Get it off my land
You cunt"

I'm not very good at poetry.

Darkstar4855 · 07/03/2021 20:32

Just ask them to stop putting it there.

LunaHeather · 07/03/2021 20:37

I think that's a remarkable piece of innovative post modern work. Grin

is this for real ???????

StoneofDestiny · 07/03/2021 20:44

Just shift them and put a note on as others have said if you can't see the cleaner in person. No big deal.

Au contraire, this is brilliant!
MixedUpFiles · 07/03/2021 20:44

I’d just put a note on the bin. It’s not your job to try to catch the cleaners.

If your area has fines for not bringing in bins in a timely fashion, I’d start reporting. The cleaners don’t care and are not liable. The owners should care and should be making proper arrangements.

CathyorClaire · 07/03/2021 20:52

They are CF's.

If it's grating now it's going to grate even more as time goes on. Note or quick chat but it needs nipping in the bud.

No. I made it up for fun.

Of course it's frigging real! Because DH said I was being petty, I wanted to check.

That's a good point actually. They do have fines here for that. But I will move it today so it's not there on my lawn for days....and if it reappears next week, then I will leave a note.

If they do it again, I'll report. That seems fair...like I'm giving them a chance.

OP posts:
FortunesFave · 07/03/2021 23:29

And to be fair to the owners, they really have made arrangements..they've got an agency and cleaners..the cleaners aren't doing their job properly though.

Mooselaurels, that's the best bit of poetry I've seen in ages.

sarahC40 · 07/03/2021 23:55

I’ve just woken my dh up laughing at the poetry and he agrees, it’s brilliant. He loves mumsnet (but would also like me to stop chuckling).

The house opposite mine is an Air bnb. At the moment it is usually rented out to groups of workers from a different part of the country. There are five bedrooms so they bring up to five large vans with them. Without fail they park at least one right across my drive. I am sick to death of banging on their door asking them to move and being told "Just let us know if you need to go out pet." and having the whole argument about the fact that I am NOT asking permission to use my own drive. On occasion they just refuse. So now I call the agency every time and kick off at them. Up until now they have moved them quickly after that.

Call the agency and tell them that the bins are not to be left on your property. Failing that I'd take the offending bin for a long walk. But then I am petty!

3peassuit · 07/03/2021 23:58

Use the poem. Job done.

HarrietSchulenberg · 08/03/2021 00:00

Every time the bin appears on your lawn, fill it with your rubbish. The cleaners won't have enough space for their rubbish so might be more inclined to move it. You could alter the poem to, "Roses are red, violets are blue, your bin's on my lawn, so I've filled it for you".
A polite note might be better, though, TBH.
