To call sexism on BoJo flat costs

Headlines (ok the DM) seem to focus on the fact that it’s Carrie’s do over of the flat.

The issue is the man finangling ways to find the money, and resorting to questionable methods. The fact that she was involved in the refurb is irrelevant.

I hate the Tories and I’m no Carrie fan but the coverage smacks of sexism. She’s such a Lady Macbeth, making him spend the money, wanting to spend so much, etc etc.

Why is no one questioning his judgement as to whether it’s a good idea at all? Barack Obama opted not to renovate the Oval Office when he took over because it wasn’t appropriate or a good look during the recession.

YANBU/ YES- this is typical sexism at work
YABU - nothing to see here

Was that sexist if it was actually the truth?

Pukkatea · 09/03/2021 12:39

The issue isn't Carrie getting called out, she isn't a meek helpless woman with no agency and can be held responsible for her own decisions.

The sexism isn't the woman being criticised, it's the man being let off. Boris is not some henpecked buffoon, but as he is the PM he's not as easy a target.

@DudeistPriest

The Carrie is such a managing bitch stuff gives me Meghan Markle vibes. She probably turned down Piers Morgan or something.
hahaha

so true

Downthefarm · 10/03/2021 21:58

I don't give a stuff about either of them. £200k on interior design for a flat which is already in decent shape??!! And in the middle of a pandemic.

Hoorayforsunshine · 12/03/2021 16:25

@Downthefarm seeing as he has complained about not being able to pay for a nanny, they obviously did not expect to have to pay for it themselves. I don’t care how much they spend, I care about where it comes from if it’s not their money or if dodgy attempts made to have it paid for another way.

@Hoorayforsunshine l agree, although I sort of do care, too. There is something obscene in a pandemic when so many people can't afford even food, to spend like that, as though it were the court of Louis 14th .

BoJoHoNo · 12/03/2021 20:48

Wasn't he meant to be 'resigning in six months' in August of last year because he wasn't getting paid enough not that I've been counting down the days? If my salary wasn't enough for me to live on, then no way would I be, or allowing my partner, to spend so much on home improvements.

Hoorayforsunshine · 15/03/2021 19:41

Unless you thought it was a freebie. And then you’d have at it if you are a freeloading Johnson.
