To ask what is a suitable/affordable tablet and what games are suitable for a 4yo?

Just had my second baby and have suddenly decided that my decision not to give my 4yo a tablet and teaching her to use it was bloody stupid and I've changed my mind 🤣 Desperate to find something she can amuse herself with for at least 5/10 mins otherwise it's endless bloody pretend play with me and I have no time to give my newborn.

So what tablets do people buy for kids this young? What games should I load on it that will be age appropriate/educational?

Or AIBU to consider doing this at all and soldier on with the old "2 hours tops of screen time per day, no tablets / smartphones until secondary school" plan?

My DS is 4 and has an amazon fire which we bought for a holiday. He has Amazon kids installed onto it that he downloads apps through. Alot of these are educational. Apps such as lego duplo, mickey mouse club house, ryans world, cbeebies. We also have a couple of netflix shows installed on there.

Another for an Amazon Fire. Periodically they are on offer. Can post over 5 months, any damage they replace for 2 years. What’s not to like?

Awesome thank you!

We’ve got an Amazon Fire as well.
The kids subscription includes access to a selection of age appropriate content.

Yep, Amazon fire! My DD (just 5) got one for Xmas. We got it half price in Black Friday sale. She can download whatever apps she fancies, and I’m safe in the knowledge that they’re age appropriate. Some of the games are just daft, but entertaining enough for her. Loads are quite educational! I’m really pleased with it.

We had Amazon fire but I'd recommend against the kids membership as it gives free access to All games and most are definitely not educational! Ours had the cbeebies apps, Lego apps, a couple of drawing and writing apps (good with a stylus to practice writing/drawing), a jigsaw app... I think that was all.. oh no the teach your monster to read as well but that might have been at 5!

I had No qualms about it as I screened all the apps and made sure they were only educational! and we saved shit loads of paper with the drawing apps
Definitely get a foam protective case too. You won't regret it!Smile

I would go with your first instinct and don't get her a tablet. Go one step further and ban TV altogether then she will learn to entertain herself when you are busy.
It doesn't all have to be play on her terms. Start giving her some responsibilities with helping you and doing household chores - it will be far more beneficial in the long run!

amazon fire but the kids version, 2 year worry free warrenty on it.
kid lobs it down stairs..... covered!
kid flushes in loo.... covered!
mum stands on it.... covered!
all the "same" tab ffs

Ours had amazon fire too. It has apps, videos and tonnes of books if you pay the subscription.
(They also helped with the chores and entertain themselves. Just because they have a tablet, it’s not the only thing they do.)

Amazon Kindle Fire. Some of the games seem a bit crap, but inoffensive.
