YANBU to book a holiday.

You would be very unreasonable to book non-refundable flights/hotels - unless you can afford to write off the money - or to expect quarantine/testing/masks regulations to be over in August.

Holidays can be booked, it’s just that no one will know until 1-2 weeks before, whether and how they can happen. Flights on sale today could be cancelled tomorrow, or 2 weeks before you’re due to go. Or they could go ahead. It depends on how much of a set in stone holiday you want.

Just make sure everything is refundable or moveable.

And take out travel insurance the moment you book not the day of departure like I normally do.....

Yes to travel insurance. Check it covers Covid.

Don’t book a holiday if you:
a) Wouldn’t be able to afford PCR tests for all the family on the way there and back.
b) Wouldn’t be able to afford self-isolation either at the holiday destination or coming back home, should someone test positive
or
c) Wouldn’t be able to take 2 weeks coming back to self isolate, should Spain go on the red list between now and summer.

I have booked for end of Aug too. I’m hoping some flights go ahead. I think once there’s a travel announcement happens prices will rise! I wasn’t risking that.

We have annual household travel insurance amd covid cancellation is covered. Flights are transferable, but not refundable.

we have just booked turkey for october after being cancelled and refunded 4 time last year so hoping it goes ahead...paid £60 deposit today..we do have extra insurance etc..some one is booking up all the holidays as there was very little left for where we want to go !!

I’ve been looking at holiday insurance. They all cover Covid, but no one covers governmental restrictions on travel. So 2 weeks before you go, a sound happens, government closes the borders and you’re up shit creek.

The only way round this is to book a package . We’ve got a villa booked in Italy in August rolled over from last year. We were going via ferry to Rotterdam.

Will ferry be running?
Will borders at Rotterdam be open. And ensuing borders in Germany and Switzerland? It’s a bloody nightmare. What if we have to bloody quarantine for every country?

EileenGC · 06/03/2021 17:49

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow as someone who has been travelling regularly throughout Europe in the last 12 months, I can confirm you don’t have to quarantine in a country you’re only transiting. As long as the borders are open, you can drive through (might need PCRs though) without any problems.

But yes, as you’ve said, borders could be all nice and open until three days before, when the situation changes again. The uncertainty is what we’re putting up with this year, no one can tell when/how rules change.

We have booked September. But we made sure it was refundable if necessary.

will you manage if you need to quarantine when you come home
