To be bloody sick of zoom quizzes

DP's family do a quiz every single bloody Saturday night. It always falls right on tea/DC's bath time too. I don't might every so often but every week is a chore, I feel like for those 2 hours I either have to sit so I'm in the frame looking interested when I'm really not or just not join and know they think I'm rude. But seriously.. I'm not interested. We've seen more of them than when life was normal! I've been making myself scarce recently and making sure I'm bathing the kids or doing some 'important' jobs while it's on. AIBU?

@CheshireDing

But why do you give a damn what they think OP? You’re busy/don’t want to do it so your choice. Just say ‘no thanks, not for me’

There’s no way I would agree to this every week, once a month at a push.

DH was FaceTiming his parents last night, I sat at the other end or the room studying - my choice I don’t want me fat face on screen , I did a quick hello and that was it.

I won’t even FaceTime DH because though - you need to lay your cards on the table from the beginning OP !

Same, his parents live abroad and I'm happy to say hello and sit in the background when they FaceTime but same as you I have no interest in full FaceTime conversations with them. He tends to ring them when I'm just getting up/in my dressing gown or have no bra on lol and I just want to be left alone not have myself on a screen!

Who the fuck could be arsed doing up two hours of questions every week??! That's gotta be a lot of questions. I guess lockdown boredom is contributing but suggest MIL takes up cross stitch/knitting or chess/poker instead. At least you either get something out of it or you practice a widely played pastime. If it would be in her area of interest maybe she could learn how to make gin or beer. Failing that, cocktails. 🍹

I like the idea of an online book club. You all (take turns to) decide on a book and have a Zoom to discuss the book. Would that be idea they'd get behind when MIL runs out of Cliff/blue tit trivia? 😁

Who cares if “it’s not gone unnoticed” ... I feel like this is one of those situations where you just have to be straight up and blunt but polite.

“ thanks for organising the quizzes, I enjoy the occasional quiz, but I don’t fancy it every weekend. I’ll join in when I can but some weeks I prefer to do other things to relax so it’ll just be OH joining in”.

That's true. I'm quite timid and don't often stand up for myself which doesn't help. I think if I'm asked where I was again I should say what you just said! x

I feel your pain OP. My DH and his family started this during lockdown 1. I hate quizzes and everything about them.

DH gets stressed trying to think of the the answers and ropes me in even if I am trying not to participate.

During the pandemic my work has been much busier and I actually said to him they were ruining the one day of the week I wasn't worrying about work.

Thankfully they have died out a bit now but they still happen occasionally. I absolutely hate them. I wouldn't give a monkeys that it has been "noticed" that I wasn't there.

Like you I am an introvert and frankly find them exhausting.

@Notaroadrunner

I wouldn't feel a bit bad about telling Dh to take the laptop to another room (or the shed would be better :-) ) and then you sit and have your take away or watch tv in peace for the 2 hours. As for his mother making comments, let her. What does it matter to you? There's no rule to say you have to engage with his family to this extent. It's ott, and would seriously do my head in.
I'm glad it's not just me who thinks it's OTT. I don't even know why I care what she thinks, she doesn't really care for me and the feeling is mutual tbh! DP has got a desk in the shed as he worked out there over the summer lockdown haha so it wouldn't be a bad idea to send him out there!! x

I feel your pain. I am not a fan of zoom or zoom quizzes. It makes me feel self conscious seeing my face on a screen. My OH family have insisted on us having weekly quizzes since lockdown begun last year. Its got to the stage where I can no longer bare them and I have no excuse or escape to not attend ever. If I am busy with work I get told I have to make time so I don't offend them. Its the same winners and losers every week. My OH brother and sister are like super bright so they win every single week and quite frankly I am sick of us being humiliated for not knowing the answer to their nonsense biased questions. When will this end
