He wants make chilli for dinner. He'd obviously be supervised. Is it too young though? Me and DH don't quite agree.

Of course it’s not too young with supervision

It’s probably more work initially than just doing it yourself but it’s a life skill he needs to learn and the best time is while he’s young and keen.

My GC (6) does basic cooking. As long as the child is capable of doing as they are told and not get overexcited.

I had a 1970's childhood and we cooked from about 8, including using chip pans. Which now horrifies me.

At least if you are poorly one day,he will be able to fend for himself, our daughter started around that age,she is one hell of a cook now,& so is her partner, throws dinner parties, the lot it really is a life skill let him do it

It’s an excellent life skill and also helps promote a healthy relationship with food and an appreciation for the work that goes into it.

My 6 and 7 year olds both love to cook and do the prep themselves, cutting up veg, peeling potatoes, etc - all under supervision obviously. They can both put things in the oven and check on them and love to stir things on the hob and tell me what I need to add. Definitely a useful skill for them to acquire and one that I encourage.
