Delivery afternoon tea on a golf course

For context, we live abroad. Tomorrow is supposed to be sun all day (finally!) and 18 degrees. I’ve seen a lovely afternoon tea set from a local cafe that can be delivered. Think beautifully wrapped box with a ribbon tied round, containing sandwiches, scones, mini jam preserves, freshly baked brownies, lemon pie, macarons etc. My plan is to eat it as a picnic on one of the deserted golf courses nearby (closed for golfers due to the pandemic) stunning to walk round and toddler Dd likes to play and fun for miles.
Dh thinks it’s a rip off and too expensive and we can grab some sandwiches, cakes and drinks at a nearby shop. I really want it, would you?

I see no issue with buying frivolous things if they give you pleasure and you can afford it.

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 06/03/2021 10:02

Good grief, who cares if it's £20 - it's not as if you've been spending ££s on going out recently is it?! Loads of businesses have been crippled by the pandemic; help out a local business and enjoy the afternoon tea. You DH sounds miserable.

LynetteScavo · 06/03/2021 10:12

My DH would say the same, he's not miserable, just frugal. I'd buy it- I've been known to go into a posh deli to grab some lunch while DH has gone into the GrinGreggs next door. There is a reason DH is able to save more money than me!

So just order it if you want it!

rawlikesushi · 06/03/2021 10:15

Round here, a box with about a half of your contents is costing £40 so I think it's a bargain. If you went and bought ingredients for sandwiches and a selection of cakes, it would cost about that.

LizzieMacQueen · 06/03/2021 10:19

How do they do the hot tea part? Do you bring your own flask?

(Touch jealous here, 18 degrees sounds perfect).

minniemoocher · 06/03/2021 10:21

Cant you just make it? I make afternoon tea quite a lot - will do later

feliciabirthgiver · 06/03/2021 10:22

Permission Granted

Mortenharketscheekbones · 06/03/2021 10:23

@LizzieMacQueen I thought that when she texted asking which tea we wanted, I didn’t even think about tea 🙈I’m thinking to take a flask full of hot, boiled water and paper cups maybe 🤷🏻‍♀️

@minniemoocher I could, but this just looks so pretty, plus I’m in the kitchen every day making three meals and 24 snacks for Dd

@SwedishK I’ve only seen a couple of dogs before and barely any people, so hopefully if we go to the side in a quiet part under the trees where we’ve been before, it should be ok.
We’ve eaten there during spring in the first lockdown, but that involved half a baguette and cartons of Um Bongo 😬
I’m hoping if there was any problem with eating there, they’d be ok with a toddler having a snack to eat, we won’t take the big rug or picnic basket etc

That’s amazingly inexpensive! I’d definitely order one as a treat the only negative thing I have to say is... why only two strawberries!

LudoTrouble · 06/03/2021 10:35

A deserted golf course would be toddler heaven! Running up and down those smooth hills while you feast on scones and brownies! That sounds really fun.

However, if your DH is going to be grumpy the whole time it won't be worth £20. Try and bring him around first.

ImnotCarolineHirons · 06/03/2021 10:48

I wouldn't have even bothered to ask DH or us, I'd have had that bad boy ordered on the spot. Maybe 2. Grin

Everybody I know is SO sick of being the chief Food Provider and in their kitchen doling out meals and snacks constantly. The "fun" of early lockdown baking has lonnnnng gone. So go ahead and enjoy every crumb!

Mortenharketscheekbones · 06/03/2021 10:49

@LudoTrouble It really is, she runs for miles and it wears her out 🤣they also have the huge sand pit parts she can play in, truly toddler heaven. It would be for our dog too, but I fear she’s too nutty and would leg it off and do a huge poo 😬

Frivolous yes, but sometimes frivolous is OK and you are supporting a local business.

As for your previous trip, I thought Um Bongo was a drink consigned to history.

Mortenharketscheekbones · 06/03/2021 11:04

@peak2021 Ha ha, it was indeed a drink from my 80’s childhood in the U.K. Where we are, it’s a regular on the shelves.
