Five term school years

There’s a thing in the Times today which says that shorter summer holidays and a five term school year are being considered to help children catch up from the schools being shut.

I know that there are people for whom the long summer holidays are a bit of a nightmare but I’d be really sad to see them go.

What do you think?

A friend's children attended an international school that had 4 terms. They really liked it and found the dc didn't get nearly as tired by the end of term. It was much easier to organise leave from work.
I don't know how 5 terms would work.

Five terms is in essence four eight week terms and one seven, with 13 weeks holiday. If the shortest break is two weeks, then summer holidays are only five weeks long. Or to retain six weeks, you end up with sixteen weeks with only a one week break at some point. So either January to May with only a week off, or August to Christmas with only a week off.

If a few schools had it, would work OK for employers and holiday providers (hotels, caravan parks for example). If everyone had it, and you cram the six weeks summer into five or four, then even more of a price hike in school holidays, or just nowhere to go for some.

It probably won’t happen or, at least, not any time soon. It would be a total arse if you had children in one school with the old terms and children in a school with the new terms.

As I posted on the other thread - I wish the government would fuck off. We haven't even gone back yet. Meddle, meddle, meddle.

Ah, I’ve just spotted the other thread.
