Is it wrong to ask for an NHS procedure during these times?

Due to endmetriosis, I have shocking periods. I am so ill, fainting, lose weight, take time off work etc. I have looked into a procedure called "endometrial ablation" which is likely to improve my periods significantly.

I mentioned it to a friend and said "around this time next year due to pressure on NHS already". She was shocked and thinks I should approach my GP now but I would feel really cheeky.

YABU - ask your GP now

YANBU - it is better to give it a year or so

Thanks for your input!

Well voted YABU as per your request but you know what I mean, YANBU to need medical attention.

Thanks for all your responses. Positive and negative!

I spoke to a receptionist as I thought I could book a telephone appointment with a GP or nurse but they are only available on the day even if not strictly an "emergency". Hopefully I can speak to someone tomorrow!

go, see the GP but endometrial ablation is usually not performed for Endo
I have large cysts (size of oranges), deep infiltrating endo, possible bowel involvement, adhesions everywhere. I need major surgery as the pain is unbearable. But I am being told it's at least 2 years due to waiting lists before I get help. I have no idea how I am supposed to cope that long..

so no, not cheeky to approach GP now. The wait will be endless.

PS, your friend is an ignorant cow. Endo wrecks lifes because it causes so much pain to so many women. Does she know what it is like to live like that?

My friend is the one was urging me to see the GP. I was the one who wasn't sure but you have all definitely made me feel more at ease about asking.

I had an endometrial ablation for endometriosis and a mirena fitted at the same time. It transformed my life. Get on the waiting list now as you'll need to be assessed and have a biopsy before they'll do the procedure. It took about 6-9 months from GP referral to done pre Covid (but I'm Wales so I think waiting lists are longer)

Ignore your friend please . I have endo and adeno and I am currently waiting on my referral appointment from gynae. The referral went in in December too. It’s a long wait if it’s not classed urgent which is crap. Hopefully you get there soon.

I'm on the waiting list for one. Was put on the list in October and was told it would be quite a while. They will also take a look around and sterilise me. I need it, I ended up in A&E due to fainting from blood loss. I don't feel bad. You shouldn't either.
